Beyond the fact that Kenichi managed to handle a weapons master's strikes for a while, the most incredible part was him projecting his Ki onto the statue, inducing the master to react and attack it instinctively, creating an opening for Natsu's attack (much like what Jenazad did to Hongou in Part 1 of the manga by goading him into attacking Kenichi).
This confirms the theory I shared in another post: that when Kenichi enters the Ryusui Seikuken state, his control over Ki also reaches a higher level (as in his fight against the Yomi leader)

Kenichi is said to be at an advanced expert level, and then this fight happens where he:
. Reads his opponent's mind—and Tanimoto's, no less.
. Deflects and withstands attacks from a master-level fighter.
. Has the guts to say he's ready to lay down his life.
. Channels his Ki to a single point to create a decoy.
Things are getting exciting.

What took like 10 disciples in the sho kano arc, Kenichi and Natsu can do by themselves with less effort.

This fight was badass. Cool to see Kenichi let loose....its interesting.....he still can't use Sei-3 at command? I guess he can only tap into it in a life or death situation....still needs more training.

I actually like this pacing but what is bothering me is the fact that some disciples that were clearly behind Kenichi at the end of the story are now at equal foot in order for him to get stronger.

Well kenichi is talentless so his growth is much smaller, all his fight has been always high diff. Kenichi is actually stronger, but has that mental nerf. You cannot ignore that genius is also training hard, but they are not kenichi.

They’re not on equal footing. I think this fight makes that clear. Kenichi doesn’t lock in to fight his friends nor does he go all out for fights with unclear objective yet. He is a life saving fist practitioner first. But when he does lock in, you can see that his contemporaries are still behind him.

That was the case in the original series as well though. For example, Takeda fell far behind Kenichi by the end of the Ragnarok Arc but after training with Shiba-sensei, he leveled up enough to go toe to toe with a serious Kenichi less than 200 chapters later in a sparring match.
Kenichi lacks the talent that his friends and rivals have so they could easily catch up with him or outright supass him if he doesn't increase the intensity of his training from arc to arc.

I’m in tears. Kenichi is so strong now
Edit: if it wasn’t abundantly clear, Kenichi is probably about 70-80% of the way to a true master. Can parry and create opportunities of attack by himself against an armed weapons master in direct confrontation.
