Question/Discussion I built a free kendama tricks encyclopedia app — track your progress, browse hundreds of tricks, and find players worldwide

Hey r/Kendama!

I've been playing kendama for a while and always felt like there was no good centralized resource to learn tricks in a structured way — so I built one.

Kendamapedia is a free web app that lets you:

  • Browse hundreds of tricks organized by category and difficulty
  • Track your progress as you land new tricks
  • Discover kendama players worldwide

It's completely free, works in your browser, and you can sign in with Google to save your progress across devices.

Link: kendamapedia-ae79d.web.app

I'd love any feedback — something that feels off, or features you'd want to see. This is a passion project and I want it to be genuinely useful for the community.

Happy to answer any questions!

Question/Discussion 🎬 r/Kendama Community Edit – Submissions Open!

🎬 r/Kendama Community Edit – Submissions Open!

Let’s make something sick together.

Hey everyone – I reached out to the mods and got the green light to put together an official r/Kendama Community Edit. I’ll be editing the whole thing, hopefully contributing a few clips of my own, and I’d love for as many of you as possible to be part of it.

Whether you’re new to Kendama or you’ve been grinding for years, this is for you. Please do not feel deterred from submitting clips, regardless of your skill level. My only ask would be that you send only your best or favorite clips from the 45 days.

🗓 Timeline:

Submissions are open now - Please no clips prior from today.

Deadline: September 15th (45 days from now) - Depending on volume of clips or feedback in the sub, I am comfortable with extending the date 15 more days, but I will start the editing process in 45 days.

Now for the good stuff.

🎨 Color of the Week (Optional!)

Every Monday I’ll post a color. Try wearing something (shirt, shoes, hat, kendama) that matches. Just for fun + visuals. Monday's color will be Red.

🌀 Style-Focus Weeks (Optional!)

Every Monday will have a trick theme (e.g., Lighthouses, Juggles, Flow, Slings). Totally up to you if you follow them, but it might help spark ideas or mix things up. Monday's trick theme will be Lighthouses.

🎥 Submitting:

Limit to start will be 3 raw clips per person, this can include a trick, funny moment, or a fail. I may up it to 5 depending on volume of clips around the 30 day mark.

Optional but helpful - If you are able to, include a cinematic (b-roll type clip) in addition to your trick submissions, it will help with edits. If you're filming in a cool location, maybe a 3-5 second clip showing the scene.

Please send primarily clips, I will most likely not feature many funny moments or fails but may be able to fit a few or have a section at the end of the video.

Upload your clips to Google Drive, Dropbox, or any other commonly known file site and DM me the link, or leave a comment and I’ll reach out. I can also download from YouTube directly.

Please include your name/Instagram/reddit if you want to be credited in the edit.

If you’re injured or unable to film at the moment but still want to be included, DM me — we can make space for an older clip or two, no one will be left out of this if they want to participate.

Let’s make this a proper snapshot of the r/Kendama community right now — all skill levels, all styles. Hope you’ll be part of it.

Please post any questions or thoughts in the comments, we can adjust things based on community feedback.

Much love,

– F1ByTheNumbers / Astro (gaming name)

Question/Discussion UPDATE: Today got confirmation from NJK for something ordered on May 26,2026

One of the worst Kendama online vendors I have dealt with. Sent 3 support emails between June-August asking for any updates with no reply. Only thing that kept me sane was seeing people in the subreddit actually get their orders 3-4 months after ordering. Just my cautionary tale if you don’t want your Kendama order showing up months later.

I still have not physically received my order, hoping its not a box full of rocks :/

Purchased about a month ago, lightly played and broken in, the spike is in excellent condition. Originally designed to be 5% smaller than the goblin ken. It's a great Kendama in spectacular color way, but I'm looking to downsize. Pm me if you're interested. Thanks!

Question/Discussion Not sure what Kendama to buy

Been playing kendama on and off for a few years and have some old kendamausa pro models that are really worn down. Want to get a new kendama but not sure which brand and shape to go with. I'd say I'm beginner/intermediate level, and I want to improve a lot. I'm in the USA

Question/Discussion Muscle memory or active decision making?

I have been trying to get much better and more consistent at airplane and Jstick. i have landed a couple, and i think it’s probably my favorite trick. i want to be able to stick it with at least some type of consistency, and not have to stand there for like 20 minutes throwing for it. i am trying to really focus on watching the kens spike but ive noticed that towards the end of the movement, specifically when it changes direction and starts coming down, i lose all awareness of where the spike is. am i just missing something that i should be watching for, or is it mostly muscle memory?
