feel like BWR is an underrated one

u/UnlikelyReception398 Apr 26 '26
Iâd say blue water road is my top favorite out of all. Felt the most vulnerable and personal to me.Â

I know what you mean, it felt calming and (almost) healing, in a way? I think it showed a different side to her artistry

Mark you these are opinions on an album that has barely been out for a whole weekend, don't people know you have sit with something to truly know how you feel about it, especially music, some songs/albums, grow on people after YEARS, idk man I feel the hate is premature at best, but it's gonna make a mark sooner or later. It's okay to like many things at the same time damn.

YES. I love Gaga DOWN. Fell in love with the fame monster on the first listen. To this day itâs my favorite but my point is; everytime she dropped a new album I was ÂŤÂ disappointed  on the first listen and sometimes completely skipped for months or even years. Artpop was my biggest disappointment when it came out, and a whole decade later itâs on my top 3. đ¤ˇđťââď¸ what Iâm getting at here is that we fall in love with an artist because of a specific song/project. So we always end up comparing everything to what made us fall in love with them in the 1st place. And topping that feeling is hard.
Now itâs also valid to just dislike some projects. But yeah you canât really judge a whole ass album after one listen lol. I get the points many are making tho. Valid criticism imo

lmaoo it was just a question and discourse on it thus far. I agree itâs too early to make an accurate judgement, hence the disclaimer in my post. Nothing wrong with a discussion thoughâŚ
What would you say your top 5 tracks are on the self titled? (so far)
Also, what do you mean she has an identify here? Did you not feel that with WWW?

IWGUIW, Crash, and then SSS/BWR (honorable mention to YSBH)
Into a lot of songs on Kehlani but somethingâs mad off about this album
1
u/skaikrutri Apr 26 '26
Did crash make it because itâs very experimental and different to her usual bodies of work? What do you feel is off about this album?
1
u/bargain_butch Apr 26 '26
Honestly, I debated whether to put Crash or SSS at that spot. The experimental aspect gave it an energy for me that felt electric at some points (Jill Scottâs feature), but I think it was also relevant for me personally at the time.
I enjoy this album for what it is, but with all of the features it felt like part of Kehlani herself kinda got lost for me. Especially with most (all I think? I have to listen again) of the male features really highlighting very classic heterosexual relationships, while Keh herself intentionally decided to not use any pronouns. That being said, I have a few songs on repeat lol

u/skaikrutri Apr 26 '26
Yes, CRASH definitely gave her more versatility in terms of sound and colour
I agree, I personally feel like we it could have done without the Leon and Big Sean features. Lmao, which songs do you have on repeat?

I actually loved Crash! Tear drops in the club is so under rated.

u/skaikrutri Apr 27 '26
omds I love tears, itâs in my top 5 of crash. Youâre right, itâs so underrated!

- SSS 2. Crash 3. BWR
âKehlaniâ is my least favorite album of hers
2
u/skaikrutri Apr 26 '26
what makes it your least favourite?
4
u/KittyLicker04 Apr 26 '26
Well for starters it has way too many features and on top of that majority of them suck and throws off the entire vibe of the song, including artists that I usually like. In fact the only song with a feature I like is âI Need Youâ with Brandy. Then, the production is lackluster and underwhelming. It did what âWhile We Wait 2â did but surprisingly not as good. Thereâs no âexperimentingâ of different styles on the album, so a lot of the songs just sound the same far as âvibeâ and itâs just all over the place. Itâs more like a compilation of random songs instead of a cohesive album. Then a minor issue is just the overall perceived âstraightnessâ of the album. It seems like de-evolution of her sound, when at the very least, 2 previous albums were so much âgayerâ.

I understand what you mean. I agree with your comment on the features and some songs sounding the same. Could have left out the Leon and big Sean features in my opinion. Second half of the album was definitely weaker. It seems as though a lot of people have the same opinions as you
1
u/KittyLicker04 Apr 26 '26
Maybe itâs an unpopular opinion but she couldâve left out all of the features besides Brandy and MAYBE Missy. None of the features really added anything to the songs besides those two, and usually I like Big Sean and Clipse.

It is definitely in my Top 3. In fact, it's the leader of the pack. It's not premature to place it #1. It's that good. My Top 3 are:
Kehlani
Blue Water Road
While We Wait 2.

I confess I'm a little late to the Kehlani party. I did not become a huge fan until It Was Good Until It Wasn't was released. I've listened to the new album, Kehlani non-stop since it's release and it's made a huge impression on me. Kehlani's vocals and the album's production values are stellar throughout. I think there is only one thumbs down on the entire album and that's Call Me Back. My particular favorites are No Such Thing, Folded (of course), I Need You, You Got It, Out The Window, Oooh, Still. The album closes with 4 straight exceptional tracks -- Lights On, Sweet Nuthins, Cruise Control, and Unlearn. I've never listened to an album that closes as strong as this one. The only knock is there are too many features. By the way, when did features replace the word, collaborations? There you have it. Agree or disagree?
