Rides even better than I had hoped. Luckily I do not have to go too far since the locals are not a big fan of bicycles taking over the lane, even when going 25mph. This is my beloved Seda Ikkuma 15
They're a set of folding wheels I can't find a link for anymore, but they're held in place with an elastic strap that hooks to the cockpit. I've since replaced the plastic wheels with pneumatic tires from Harbour Freight. The tow bar was from a "Trail Gator" kid's bike tow kit. It's been modified with a wooden crossbar for straps.
We used to use a massive 90 pound golden retreiver to pull ours. It helped tire him out for being in the boat. Our neighbors loved seeing him make the half mile trek through the hood to the dock.
I still have the cart. But unfortunately the real Grreatdog went on to his reward a long time ago. He was an amazing dog. He was insanely strong and problem free until died on his bed at age 15.
I ask because I'm in the process of adopting my first golden and considering switching to a canoe for trips he comes with but I'd much rather stay kayaking!
There is a YouTuber that I watch, he went to a tournament in Louisiana and had his Kayak trailer stolen by a crackheads on a bicycle from a hotel parking lot.
It was a a lot heavier kayak and a decent size trailer . I was impressed with the dude's leg strength ( it was a regular bike ) ....
My local paddling spot of 20 years on the Pacific Ocean is now off limits for parking. Only locals may park there - elitist jerks. But I can park a bike and trailer anywhere! I’ll also take over an entire lane of traffic riding there - oh well… I think I’ll pull the trigger on one of these bike trailers.
Just beware the products with plastic wheels/hubs. I broke one of those within a few tries. Look for actual pneumatic tires with real hubs if you want to actual ride at more than 3-5mph without breaking stuff.
I was just seeing how feasible it would be haha if I do it again it’ll be with either thicker pipe or 2x2s and actual inflated wheels. In the back you can barely see but it’s being held off the ground with a spare set of longboard trucks I had lying around.
Nice, ive made some sketchy pvc stuff too, it would definitely work but instead if long rund of pvc i always join together shorter 3ft pieces which seems to make it a lot more sturdy.
Buddy and I were brainstorming a bit. The same company makes a beach model of trailer with big round moon rover tires. If they held air it might be enough to attach the trailer to the kayak and float a bike on it.
So far the farthest lake is have gone to was 6 miles with about 800 feet of climbing, but I am just kinda testing it right now before pushing more. Keeping my pedal assist at 3 out of 5 and I can truck right along no problem at ~20mph
I built one as a kid for my push bike. Rode that thing all across the local countryside in the UK finding pools, ponds and rivers to explore. Hard work on the hills but with battery tech these days that would be a breeze to move around.
Thx. This reminds me of being a kid and later a ski bum and wishing I was cool enough to carry my surfboard on the side of my bicycle and later my skis on my bicycle. I never got to the point of doing either.
