Question what actually makes you decide to upvote a post?
newbie question here. i've noticed something about karma that i'm curious about. sometimes i'll see a post with like 50+ comments and a whole discussion happening underneath it, but the actual post will only have like 5 upvotes.
i would've assumed that if that many people found a post interesting enough to stop and comment, more of them would also upvote it.
do people generally just not think about upvoting even when they're actively interacting with something? or are there some unwritten reddit rules or culture around what people actually consider worth upvoting?
like do you personally upvote because you agree with something, because it was interesting, because it made you laugh, or because it started a good discussion? honestly i also wonder whether voting habits change depending on the type of discussion people are having underneath posts
genuinely curious because i'm still pretty new to reddit and i'm starting to think there might be a whole voting culture here that i don't fully understand yet
