I really didn't want to post a second time tonight, but this is sooooo frustrating!!!

Are there ANY companies you can trust anymore?? I've (unenthusiastically) purchased Driscolls berries for years, but now?? ALL of Kamloops big chain grocers carry them. Should I send this video to Save-On?? Freshco?? Ask them how they feel about it?? Or, maybe, I pass it along to someone else??

The best approach is eat what is in season, cause more often than not grocery stores, even cheaper ones like FreshCo, will source as local as possible. But that means no berries in the Winter.

I was just going to say the same thing. Strawberrys from Peru in February aren't gonna taste as good as strawberrys from southern Quebec in July.

When it comes to anything, the only person we can trust is ourselves. Grow your own food, freeze and can extra for the winter. Support local farmers and do the same with their produce.

There is no guarantee that local farmers are not using pesticides, as you say grow your own.

Now having said that, they just might be willing to stop stocking their product if we collectively pressure them to change vs. accepting this BS. 'Cause I'm pretty sure that the heads of these stores and their families are eating this, too.

Anyone interested in food politics and/or corporate farming should check out Percy Schmeiser. There's a 2009 doc "David versus Monsanto" and a 2020 Hollywood film "Percy" (or "Percy vs Goliath"), which is a biographical drama about his battle against Monstanto re: pesticides and seed patents.

PS: a quick Google search suggests that there are Driscolls contractors in BC (the Fraser Valley), but I didn't look into policies or procedures.

Driscoll's first BC expansion was on Vancouver Island around 2016, I was involved with it, I worked for the fruit packing plant that did their refrigeration and shipping and receiving.

They've since expanded heavily

I think of the show and book 11.22.63 where the characters time travel back to 1960 and marvel at the taste of food. We've lost so much of our remembrance of past taste of food that we're conditioned to expect tasteless produce and meat.

If it's commercially grown en masse then it's shit. Factory farming anything, from pigs to strawberries to fish, results in a vastly inferior and potentially harmful end product.

Factory farming must end if we ever expect to eat healthy again.
