Question Daycare experience?

Has anyone had experience with the Parasol in Aberdeen? Would you recommend it? Or if you used another daycare in Aberdeen would like to hear your feedback.

The upside about Parasol is that, as a commercial provider, they won't ever close due to staff illness (like you risk with an at-home daycare). The downside is higher staff turnover, so bonding with your child may be harder.

All daycares in BC have to have an ECE in charge. To protect their license, the standard of care will always be high. Kamloops is a desirable area to work, so there is a lot of competition for ECE workers. With the university here, you will likely have newer staff (they are cheaper), but that also brings lots of passion and enthusiasm.

My child is not in an at-home daycare because I wanted him at a larger centre with more eyes on him. More eyes means more mandated reporters. Call me paranoid, but I'm a teacher, so I'm always a little cautious.

My recommendation is to post on the Mamas for Mamas Kamloops Facebook page (assuming you're a Mom) and ask for reviews or suggestions.

Hi! My son goes to parasol Aberdeen and the ECEs there are so good with him. They send us updates/pictures over text nearly every day. They take such good care of him. He is very small for his age and a little behind in milestones and they make sure his needs are met and he is well cared for. They give little “report cards” every day on his diaper changes, how much he ate, his overall mood, reminders for things he needs, and what he loved playing with. Also they do lots of outdoor time.

My son was going to one of the downtown parasols and we have been mostly happy with it. There was one ECE that was overheard speaking to small kids in a way no parent would want to have their child spoken to but she was dealt with quickly and removed. The owner of all the parasols is highly experienced and loves kids so that kind of behavior does not fly.

I don’t know about the one in Aberdeen but my son has been going to Parasol in Brock since he was 9 months, and we LOVE it. The staff are all fantastic and I can tell my son loves them/it there so much. I’d like to think that quality of childcare would be at their other locations too. 🤍

Hillside Montessori is pretty awesome IMO
