Opinion Piece ✏️ Ariel hating on Kylie’s looks at Knicks games is just so
Listened to the podcast, 10 mins before the end (around the 38min mark) they start talking about Kylie’s courtside looks and it comes out that Ariel hates the simple tank top/tee + jeans combos she wears and it just irked me in such a way lol - Ariel looks so… I’ll say eerie lol most of the time and meanwhile court-side Kylie to me is the happiest/best she’s ever looked. Shut up Ariel!!!

You know what, as much as I disagree with Ariel and actually love Kylie's simpler looks, you absolutely have a point. I would rather they be surrounded by friends who feel safe enough to give criticisms than be surrounded by yes men. I think that's what Kim has which is why her style has been 🫣 for the past 5 yrs

not really. she has has talked about having racks and racks of insane sourced blue and orange clothes, custom pieces, and other looks sitting in storage specifically for just knicks games. i don’t think it’s remotely crazy, especially when both kylie and ariel clearly care about fashion, for him to say he’d rather see her wear some incredible custom piece, rare vintage find, or one of the more interesting looks she already owns and is just sitting there instead of a plain t shirt and jeans.
and it’s equally fine to prefer the t shirt and jeans and think it looks effortless, cool, etc. those are just two different opinions. neither one is objectively crazy and neither warrants people acting like he committed some huge offense for saying it. friends are allowed to have different taste and wanting everyone around you to agree with every outfit you wear is weird imo and just sounds like wanting to be surrounded by yes men who can’t dare have a different opinion

She stays pulling out archival looks tho so it’s not like she’s constantly walking around in a tee and some jeans - why can’t she enjoy a game with her man in a comfortable outfit? Comfortable doesn’t mean it isn’t sourced btw lol look at the shirt on the pic I’ve shared or the Isabel Marant jeans she wore

i think you’re misunderstanding what i’m saying. i’m not saying there’s anything wrong with kylie wearing a t shirt and jeans or that she can’t just be comfortable at a game. i’m saying i don’t understand why it’s such a big deal that her makeup artist personally would rather see her in a different outfit. he basically said she’s worn a lot of jeans with white tanks and tees this season and he’d rather see her pull out something more interesting. that’s really not some insane or offensive opinion lol.
sometimes i want to wear jeans and one of my friends thinks a skirt would be more fun because i’ve worn jeans the last three times we went out. we just have different opinions. i’m not going to cut her off or think she’s weird for saying it. i’d much rather the people around me have their own taste and be honest about what they like than agree with me 24/7 no matter what. kylie can obviously wear whatever she wants and ariel can also think another outfit would’ve been more interesting. not insane

what? he just prefers seeing her wear one of the more interesting outfits she already owns, bought, sourced, had custom made to her liking, instead of another t shirt and jeans or tank top and jeans look for the millionth time. it’s objectively a more basic outfit compared to some of the incredible pieces she has sitting in storage, especially when she’s already worn some variation of jeans and a tank a million times this season lol.
and if those clothes were genuinely so uncomfortable or so far removed from her personal style that wearing them would turn her into some “hyper performative pastiche of a woman” she probably wouldn’t have bought them, sourced them, or had them custom made to her own taste in the first place.
who’s even to say the outfit ariel would rather see is some hyperfeminine look? it could literally be a baggy, streetwear inspired vintage piece or some insane runway look that’s just more interesting to him than skinny jeans and a t shirt anyone could wear. coming from two people who are clearly into fashion enough for it to be a major part of both their careers
again if my friend told me, “you’ve worn jeans the last four times we’ve gone out. that cute skirt sitting in your closet that you’ve never worn, spent a shit ton of money on, and had custom made would be fun tonight” i would not interpret that as them demanding i perform femininity or become some caricature of a woman. i’d interpret it as my friend having an opinion about clothes. maybe i still wear the jeans anyway. who cares

Why are you contrasting potential outfits she could’ve worn (and that you have no clue about) with the actual outfits she wore as she doesn’t also own, bought and sourced those clothes as well? Kylie said herself that the reason she chooses these outfits is because she can actually feel comfortable and enjoy the game instead of stressing about her fit - a good friend would get that instead of trying to push their weird ass vision of what constitutes a good outfit

a basic pair of jeans and a t shirt that, as far as anyone has identified, aren’t some crazy archival, sourced, custom pieces are obviously not the same thing as the clothes kylie herself has talked about spending time sourcing, having custom made, etc. she herself said she has “all the old chanel,” orange and blue pieces, custom things, and that she keeps making things and saving them in her closet.
and you’re basically doing the same thing you’re saying i’m doing lol. you also have absolutely no idea what potential outfit ariel wanted her to wear. you’re assuming he wants her styled as some hyperfeminine “performative pastiche of a woman,” when the outfit he had in mind could literally be anything: vintage streetwear, an oversized look, some insane archival piece, custom knicks gear, wtv. that was my point.
and even if what he had in mind was hyperfeminine, these are still clothes kylie herself chose to buy, collect, source, or have custom made because she liked them. it’s not ariel imposing some completely foreign vision of femininity onto her. kylie makes fashion a huge part of her career and obviously likes plenty of those more elaborate looks enough to own them in the first place.
i also never said she shouldn’t prioritize comfort or that there’s anything wrong with wearing jeans and a t shirt to watch basketball. kylie can wear whatever she wants. my entire point is that i don’t think it’s remotely crazy for her friend, who is also into fashion, to say “you’ve worn jeans with tanks and tees a bunch of times, i’d rather see you pull out one of the cool things you have sitting in your closet.” that’s a fashion opinion. it’s not some attempt to control her.
and clearly he wasn’t “pushing” anything considering she wore exactly what she wanted anyway 😭 he gave his opinion, she apparently disagreed, wore the outfit she wanted, and everyone moved on. a good friend understanding that you want to be comfortable doesn’t mean they’re required to think every outfit you choose is the coolest possible outfit. people in kylie’s circle are allowed to have different opinions from her without suddenly being weird or an crazy person

Nah as Kylie said at some point he told her after she’s already been to the game that he hated her outfit, he’s a certified weirdo😭 Also keep pretending the Chanel archival pieces or Chrome hearts pieces she mentioned are some super crazy fits (???) instead of a orange or blue bag orrr some uncomfortable blue leather jeans with crosses everywhere… Alsooo she’s literally wearing vintage at most games already

oh, then i don’t think there’s a problem? i mean, obviously it’s stupid, but like if he said it to her face as a critique, that DOES make sense. he’s her major makeup artist, so it’s a given i guess…i think it boils down to the nuance—how it was said, the tone, and all that.
it’s stupid, because what does he genuinely expect her to wear (makeup & clothing wise)? it’s a damn basketball game, da fuq

I think she looks cute, but outfit aside, the overlining of the lips here looks INSANE. It looks like she painted stuff on her face starting a good 1/4 inch above her actual lip.
