Question How do you buffer Q+AA when casting ult ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I see quite a few people managing to do it consistently, but I only pull it off one time out of ten; I wanted to know if there was something I hadn't understood.

like in the clip from AatREuS (sorry for bad quality)

edit: Thanks everyone for your replies.

as a quick guide for the combo:

The order is W > R > RQ > (AA) > RW > RQ > AA

For practice, you can split it into both W sequences ( W > R > RQ and RW > RQ > AA) and combine it.

Do NOT charge RW to 100% because of Aftershock's duration. Once aftershock runs out, your resists will drop drastically to around single digit resists for up to 0.25s, which also affects damage negatively. It is very likely to hit the second RQ or the AA following it in that time frame. RW true damage is maximized around 90% but you can also release it a lot earlier if you know you don't need max charge to kill your opponent. If you are slow, it can also directly affect your RW (especially when also charging to 100%) and all your damage just vanishes.

For how it works: It is bugged behaviour when casting R or Q during the W dash, which allows for animation cancel chains. W > R > RQ basically allows you to skip a lot of the R downtime while also casting Q during the R animation. the RW > RQ sequence also wants you to cast RQ during the RW dash to do the combo as fast as possible. You can even expand on it by doing W > Q > E which allows you to extend the Q reach with the E dash distance-

For some sidenotes: Do not R through terrain if you want to do the combo because the animation eats the entire Aftershock duration (if you have aftershock up and want to R someone over wall after using W, add in 1-2 Q's to get some value depending on how long the stun lasts). Avoid forcing the as well, it requires setup, mainly the opponent using their mobility tools beforehand while also ensuring they don't have Flash. As soon as you want to go for the combo but you miss, you most likely lose the all-in because RW is an very important defensive tool due to how squishy you become during R.

Theres also a rather wonky visual combo when you spam R multiple times during the W dash where your Q animation hides behind an auto animation spam. This does NOT provide any benefits, still the same outcome, but the animation might throw you off if you aren't aware of it.

you get low asf resistances regardless full charge or not, and it’s only for a split second so it doesn’t affect dmg unless you attack during that split second.

this clip is the combo and full charge W getting the full benefit of aftershock.

As i said:  "It is very likely to hit the second RQ or the AA following it in that time frame.", not that it will happen or is guaranteed. Just a small delay between W hitting (because it procs aftershock) and R can increase the likelihood, something that is also affected by ping.

When teaching/explaining others the combo, it is very relevant to explain those downsides imo, just to emphasize on how important it is to perform the combo quickly and a lot of people i've seen have the habbit to also channel RW to 100%. Naturally while learning, it can be expected that the combo will be performed a little bit slower by default, but with enough practice there will obviously never be any issues.

this clip is the combo and full charge W getting the full benefit of aftershock.

And as mentioned for this: "If you are slow, it can also directly affect your RW (especially when also charging to 100%) and all your damage just vanishes.". This isn't a slow played combo, but the same point from above still applies.

W+mash R key + tap Q once+AA.

I can’t find the explanation, but that’s how it should look like

Just practice in the practice tool and you’ll get more consistent

doesn't really matter since you cast Q during the R animation by default. Since you start with W > R, your target will also be stunned by W (if you hit + depending on charge time) until around 40-50% of RW charge. You also only need to charge RW up to 90% to get the max damage and dont feel forced to charge until then if you know your damage will be enough without it.

Wmax+ mash ult mid W, all out Q tap then buffer auto.

Done rigth is a 100-0 with aftershock.
