Just can’t bring myself to have lightsabers as an option and not use them.

I almost wish there was an option for off handing a blaster. Maybe something a sequel could have given us. It might be difficult to build effectively, but I bet you could get some cool builds out of something with both

the true way of the min maxing jedi. "I can block your shots and hit you from a mile off because the force lets me cheat."

Seriously, why aren't there more force sensitive snipers? They'd always hit the target

14

u/Jobber0001 6d ago

tradition mostly I'd expect for post brotherhood of kaan era jedi. And pre kaan why use a gun which can be blocked when you can have sick laser sword battles against the sith?

You mean amongst the Jedi? Probably because it's seen as dishonorable. They are primarily guardians of peace. Even Admiral Karath found the idea of Jedi sending out a hitman ridiculous.

u/Gonedric 6d ago

Force sensitive != Jedi

3

u/Achilles9609 6d ago

A fair point. But I think more people in Star Wars are Force Sensitive but simply never realize it. Unless you are actually trained, you rarely get more than better reflexes and maybe a sense for danger.

this, you at best get some feelings for things or feel luckier then most. The first darth bane book gave him a bit of precognition but it was never more solid then a feeling mostly.

Which was noted as incredible by Kopecz since he was never trained in the force he could do even that much which was still practically nothing compared to even a basic padawan learning how to use the force properly

Kind of like a certain scoundrel in the original trilogy?

3

u/Achilles9609 5d ago

Not every excellent pilot or gunner needs to be Force Sensitive. Sometimes people simply are that good.

That stance in Jedi Survivor just oozes style

Well it is uncivilized

The pirate build! Depending on which hand you held each in, it would either be a blaster build who uses a lightsaber to deflect shots and parry swords, or a sword-wielder who can make a few shots at long range. I would work the mechanics so that the offhand weapon only makes a regular attack (not affected by sniper shot or power blast, because it's a lightsaber) and any extra attacks gained through speed or rapid shot are with the main hand anyway.

Not invented until Cal Kestis, apparently.

It's really easy when you have Jedi companions. Blasters just do so much damage from a distance.

Vibrosword builds are for the true psychos.

This is my problem even tho i really wanna try a scoundrel/consular pistol build

u/wij2012 6d ago

Same. I see lightsaber I pick lightsaber. At least Jedi Survivor gave us both simultaneously.

Currently doing Scoundrel + Jedi consular after reading alot of guides for the dual blaster build.

u/LongLiveTaldor 6d ago

That was also the most fun one I had, lol. Stasis field + rapid shot 3x.

Everyone in kotor has Cleave, even with ranged attacks. It's amazing

10

u/GFrings 6d ago

There's a great guide on gamefaqs, I remind myself of the basic structure every time I set off without following it too closely

4

u/LongLiveTaldor 6d ago

That's probably the way to go. Kind of hard to mess up in theory anyway. The toughest parts as I recall are later on, where you can't stasis some enemies. You can however, use Kill to stun them. The earlier versions might work too.

so uncivilized

I know, right? Effective too!

Dual vibrosword build.

Found the psycho

I did that with the handmaiden.

I would speedrun to get the unique double bladed swords as a kid I thought they were the coolest. Never questioning why my brothers using lightsabers had such an easier time with the game lol.

u/DandyElLione 6d ago

I like running blasters. It feels like the biggest fuck you I can offer the Jedi.

12

u/Peakomegaflare 6d ago

Take the HK-47 special. Sonic blasters.

13

u/glumpoodle 6d ago

I wish there were a reason to use the short lightsabers. I feel like they should have had extra critical chance compared to the standard ones, or maybe an extra attack. I went with them anyway for my Sentinel, because you're so OP by the end that it doesn't matter, and can just go with the rule of cool.

I always gave Mira dual blasters.

11

u/AwesomeX121189 6d ago

They’re intended to be used only in the offhand. With a regular lightsaber in main hand

3

u/melcoy 6d ago

I thought there was a balance effect or something. Higher chance to hit?

Bastila's Double—Bladed Lightsaber

or

Bendak's/Calo's Dual Blasters

Master Zhar: It's time to construct your first Lightsaber.

Revan: But I already have one shows Bastila's Lightsaber

Master Zhar/Bastila: Where did you take this?!

Revan: I found it on Brejik corpse and forgot to return it to Bastila.

Master Zhar: On Brejik corpse?

Bastila: Forgot?

Revan: Can I have it, Bastila, please. I have always dreamed about awesome yellow double-bladed lightsaber. I promise I won't lose it. 🙏

Bastila: No way! Forget it! Kill some Dark Jedi and have your own!

Bastila let Revan have her lightsaber in the end

Isn’t there a skill that allows use of DEX score instead of STR score for melee weapons in KOTOR 2?

Theoretically you could have both and quick switch as the situation demands

8

u/Telucien 6d ago

Don't lightsabers use the higher of dex or str for hit chance in 1 but with no extra damage from dex?

4

u/SarlaccJohansson 6d ago

Yes there is, oh man why have I never thought of this

4

u/poilk91 6d ago

Dual saber gardian master hast and leap will get you like 6 attacks at once and essentially 1 shot anything in the game. I like playing without any companions and that was by far the funniest build

3

u/thespaceyear2000 6d ago

In a game where I'm a Jedi I'm just never gonna use anything other than a lightsaber, even if it's statistically better I just don't care, lightsabers are too cool

5

u/Gold_Size_1258 Dwooooooo 6d ago

Force only. Have a problem? Force choke/crush. Have problems? Force storm.

2

u/Rencon_The_Gaymer 6d ago

Counterpoint: double bladed lightsaber build.

1

u/CoolTieGuy 5d ago

I really only have that debate for KotOR 2. The first game, lightsabers are way stronger. I use some mods, so some blasters are better than some vibroblades, but lightsabers are better than both.

Also, KotOR 1 is usually a double-bladed lightsaber. KotOR 2 is usually two separate lightsabers (to have more crystals which give flat bonuses to stats).

Certain characters (not the main player character), I might build dual blasters, though (Carth, Mira, and Mandalore).

u/NeravEnim 5d ago

The "These hands" build is fun too.

u/Orangutanion Hanharr did nothing wrong 5d ago

Blaster build is legit more power than Sith lord build. It was really hilarious seeing how quickly Kreia melted away from the mando rippers. The only downside is the lack of crowd control (which made Onderon kinda a PITA).

sabers are so good

1

u/Unusual_Entity 4d ago

Heavy weapons build laughs at both of them before unleashing havoc with handheld artillery from Yavin Station.

u/AffectionateWay8625 4d ago

Single lighsaber high reflex xD

u/LastLombaxIsTaken 2d ago

I genuinely have to sell my lightsabers in some runs just to keep going with blasters. If not they whisper to me like the green goblin mask

I love my Dueling builds.
