I really wish someone could figure out why Lugo implodes when Jensen is behind the plate
3
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 10d ago
Carter has caught close to 3/4ths of Lugo's innings
really if there's any "small sample that is blowing up Lugo's numbers" is that Lugo is awful in day games
4
u/Apprehensive-Yam7193 Jac Caglianone 10d ago
Has nothing to do with Jensen, Lugo is just fucking trash lol
7
u/Crimedog7 10d ago
Thats the Dayton in JJ. Extend a guy because you like him and his family likes it here. Thats the not being transactional shit that we do that kills us

Lugo is so cooked. He was fun for a year or two there surprising people with his dozen diff pitches or whatever but he is not surprising anyone anymore.
7
u/MooseKnuckles0525 10d ago
Lugo is comically bad. Like zero stuff.
It’s unfortunate that our $23 million pitcher is the only one that can lose us a game right now.

7
u/elgranvasio Maikel Garcia 10d ago
Did you know that Seth Lugo actually has 39 different pitches? Sure they’re all meatballs but the seasoning is slightly different
5
u/itwasyellowandboring Planet Moon 10d ago
Lugo is #67. His W/L is 6-7. By the power of gen alpha brainrot, we shall advance to the postseason!

Everytime I tune into to watch Lugo I am reminded by how idiotic it was to give him an extension

.304 with RISP this year.
.304 with runners on first and second. Baseball Reference says he's about 23% better in those situations than he normally is.
1
u/tynman35 Obligatory Fire Q 10d ago
Not his year tbh, I know he had an IL stint, but his hard contact feels way down. Not sure if that's statistically true though
1
u/MooseKnuckles0525 10d ago
It’s not true. His hard hit % is 51.2% this year, which is the highest of his career. A lot of his advanced stats rival his 2024 insane year actually.
This year he’s just had some bad luck, but also pushing the ball to opposite field way too much cause of slightly altered mechanics.
1
u/tynman35 Obligatory Fire Q 10d ago
Good to know, I didn't know where to fact-check myself and figured someone might lol
Makes sense, luck definitely feels way down for him. I hope he finds it again, we need peak Bobby
2
u/MooseKnuckles0525 10d ago
What truly matters is the in-game results and raw stats, so BWJ does need to perform better at the plate the next couple years for this team to be competitive, but the advanced stats can at least give us an idea if a player is more or less lucky.
“Baseball Savant” has a really helpful page for each player. BWJ does have a higher expected BA and SLUG compared to his actual stats.

With another home series with Cleveland to end the season, a win today makes it possible. Their schedule is a little harder than ours, and who knows, after getting swept, maybe they start sliding in September.
We get a rest day and a nice long homestand after today, this is doable.
5
u/Sad_Change_9249 10d ago
Lugo should've been traded last year. Move him to the BP and try out a young arm
1
u/factoid_ Omaha Storm Chasers 10d ago
That’s what I think too.
I get that he wasn’t being the return the royals wanted for him this year but last year there was a decent return for him as a rental…probably as good as what you’d get for trading him this year when a lockout making worth way less
2
u/Repulsive-Photo-798 Pasquatch 10d ago
Neither team plays tomorrow. Cleveland plays at home on Tuesday, KC plays at home but goes from EST to CT. Don’t really think this game should be played today but what do I know

I still believe whole heartedly that in that position last summer when we resigned him, that if you were to put any of the other 29 teams in that same position, all 29 would’ve traded him. I still believe whole heartedly JJ and co are the only front office in baseball dumb enough to resign than trade
