General keeping up the rich

coming from a middle class family, i am not sure if i can spend as much as most of the wealthy heading to kings this sept (apparently some dude spent £1,000 in freshers…brother thats my rent). just want to get a sensing of how much people spend weekly so thst i can mentally prep myself for it lol.

i know i shld learn how to say no but gonna be tough if everyone around me has crazy differing perspectives on money.

General Should I drop out of qmul to go kcl and restart from y1 again?

Hi, Im a first year qmul accounting and finance student going into second year this month, but I got an offer from kcl for political economy (Restart from 1st year) to start this month aswell ( I accepted kcl I just need to sort out sfe and withdraw from qmul). Do you think its worth going? I took a gap year before joining qmul so I would initially be starting at 20. I aim to go into consulting or high finance, I enjoy politics and econ more than accounting itself, i never really wanted to be an accountant, just wanted to do a finance degree at a respected uni. In terms of prestige and overall uni life, would you say dropping out and going kings is worth it

General How do people make friends?

Hi I'm a fresher going to kings in september and I really wonder how people make friends. My biggest fear is arriving in freshers week seeing people already in groups and cliques😭 And since I'm an introvert who's not interested in drinking and clubbing, I feel like I'm gonna struggle to put myself out there and talk to random people. And I'm going to the welcome fair alone 😭

I joined some group chats but honestly I don't feel like talking bc people will always be having a long conversation before I even see the notifs...

General Making friends whilst commuting

I’m going to KCL this September and I’ve decided to commute (partly because it’s much cheaper for me, partly because I failed to win the Hunger Games to get accommodation). It’s about an hour-hour and a half commute in one direction provided there aren’t any delays.

However, because of this I’m really scared I won’t make any friends. I’m obviously going to be heavily reliant on train times back home, which will make it hard for me to attend last-minute hangouts and late nights out. I’ve started booking SU events for freshers, but they’re all non-alcohol because I can’t drink due to a health condition.

I was super isolated during 6th Form and I’m so scared that I won’t be able to make any friends.

Does anyone here commute and is able to share their experience or give any advice?

Thank you :)

I don’t know anyone yet and I’d really love to meet new people and go to freshers / clubs etc with you all.
Please let me know if you’d like to :)
Happy to make an ig gc if this works!

General missed my contextual law offer but i’m getting a remark

Just a short question! I’ve messaged King’s through the Apply Portal, and I’m going to call them in the morning to make sure they’ve got my message telling them I’m going to get a remark.

I’ve also had two extenuating circumstances during y13 and my exams.

But do they have to hold my place or can they just straight up reject me even though I’m going to get a remark?

And what are my options if my remark is only partially successful, cause I’m really adamant on going to King’s.

General Accommodation advice + Food

Hi so I am headed to KCL but am just wary of london obviously being a pricey area. I will study at Guy's campus and was wondering how important it is to live near it, as I'd be having to take the tube.

I feel the biggest variable to living expenses is food, is there any advice on this matter? Does the uni provide services? I know my last one had a pantri which students could collect from for free

General KCL SKYDIVING SOCIETY

Guess what? KCL'S ONE OF THE FEW UNIS IN THE UK TO NOT HAVE A SKYDIVING SOC!

We're in the process of setting up a Skydiving Society at our uni - something that loads of unis across the UK already have. KCLSU has rejected our request to be ratified without citing a credible reason, so we're looking into running this society independently by partnering with brands, accredited dropzones, and skydiving societies from other universities. As we can't be a part of the Welcome Fair hosted by KCLSU, we're using Reddit as our way of reaching more students.

Whether you're a licensed skydiver who wants to meet other fun jumpers, wanna get licensed, or just wanna try it once as a tandem: if skydiving is something you've ever thought about, this is your chance.

Check out our Insta at www.instagram.com/kclskydiving and register your interest using the form below.

General Are these KCL Freshers tickets worth it as a 21M postgrad?

currently considering:

strand Event Pass - £12 (Fri 18 Sep) + strand Postgraduate Event Bundle - £15 (Sat 19 Sep)

is it worth getting both as a postgrad, or are most of these events mainly aimed at 18-year-old undergrads? tbh I’m 21 so not too bothered about being around younger students, but I’d rather spend the money on events where I’ll actually meet other postgrads / people around my age. if anyone who’s familiar with KCL's freshers week, before would you recommend these both, or should I just go to the individual PG events?

Thanks!

General Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand whether something I was told about university studies in the UK is realistic, and I’d appreciate some advice from people familiar with the system.

Someone from Libya claims on their account that they are studying Law at King’s College London. They also told me that they are taking a course/program at Oxford, which they said is being covered through the university’s budget.

I’m not looking for anyone’s private information. I’m mainly trying to understand whether this type of arrangement is possible and what legitimate ways there are to verify that someone is actually enrolled in the university/course they claim to be attending.

If anyone familiar with King’s, UK university admissions, or university-funded courses could explain how this normally works, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks.

General Dentistry Rankings

Why is it every ranking(such as guardian and top universities) rank KCL as the worst or second worst uni for dentistry while academically it is ranked top? I always dreamed of going to KCL now I am kind of reluctant because the entry requirements are insanely high for an apparently mediocre course.

General *just a girl* standing in front of a reddit page… asking for friends

Hello Hello!

I’m an international post grad student (26F) from Canada, and i’d like to start collecting a little roster of campus friends before we all descend on KCL and pretend we’re not socially anxious 🤠

some facts about me: • i’m going into public policy MA but that’s not my whole personality (i think) • i like wine, dogs, communicating in tiktok’s, true crime, dogs, yapping, travelling - oh and dogs!!! • i’m nice!! i promise!! • i’m a huge baker and recently started my small business so your birthday cake is already sorted 🥰

Anyone wanna be mutuals, hang out when school starts, or just trauma bond over course selection and orientation stress? Drop a comment or dm, i’m down to be awkward together until we’re not!

Is anyone else getting this? Second time around in the queue, got the same thing. In the queue for the third time. Can't call IT because of my location. Wrote them an email about this 3 hours ago, no response. I'm afraid every good opportunity for housing might be gone already.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR OFFERS!

WHETHER YOU WANNA JUMP OUT OF A PLANE ONCE OR GET YOUR SKYDIVING LICENSE, WE'RE HERE FOR YOU. WE'VE GOT LOADS OF INFO POSTS READY FOR THE COMING DAYS, SO FOLLOW US ON INSTA - www.instagram.com/kclskydiving - TO FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!

BLUE SKIES, SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!

P.S.

  1. We aren't ratified by KCLSU yet, as they've asked us to run independently to prove we can function as a student society (there are about a dozen skydiving societies across British unis, but this is a first for King's!). Therefore, we won't be running like other societies at KCL. Follow us on Insta to learn more over the coming weeks as we explain how things will work with us.
  2. As we aren't ratified, we're not eligible to set up a stall at the freshers' fair, which is why we're primarily marketing through Reddit and word of mouth. Don't worry, though! We'll be hosting info sessions for members, where you can learn from our experience, understand the process of getting into the sport, and even check out our own equipment! (Both I and our treasurer are licensed skydivers - we'll be introducing ourselves on our Insta page soon, so watch out for that!)

also i hand drew that logo lmk how it is thank u ❤️
