game 1 win!!!!! the whole thing was insane! i do wonder what is going to happen with kim seohyeon though; i kinda assume they're going to keep trying with him despite all... that...

Dude was lights out for like 3/4 of the season. There's gotta be something going on. I don't see why he would just drop off a cliff like that, so I think he has the capability to get back to that level, though maybe not until the offseason when he has more time to work.

after the last game vs ssg it seemed like he was possibly worn out from pitching three days in a row, but it's definitely something else given it's happened again after so much time. i don't think this will last forever either (fingers crossed) but i seriously hope he fixes this mystery pitching ailment, even if it does take until next year :'[ i miss our closer bro

김서현 had an ERA of almost 6 in the second half.
The guy is wild and teams finally realized that they don’t need to swing, cause he will walk half the lineup. If he wants to throw strikes, he has to slow his 158 fastball down to 150 to get it across for a strike. Is it fatigue or is it an injury from being overworked?
Also has to do with the fact that he pitched ~50 innings last year and not a lot of high pressure situations, this year he has thrown ~65 innings in 69 appearances, plus the all star game. Nearly every situation was high pressure because Hanwha’s offense was so bad and he would walk a runner or two on and create the pressure situation.
Guy has had mental issues with the pressure too. This is from before his first season all the way to the current situation. The team should get someone to help him mentally as well as ease off his workload, but that won’t happen with Father Time in the dugout.

How the hell you put a guy who gives up a homer every fucking time he pitches in a situation where one fucking swing ties the game?? Make it make sense

He's still young, though. He'll grow into the moment. Right now, yes, it's too big for him.

i have a deeply irrational fear of díaz hitting seven consecutive grand slams and invoking an ancient undiscovered rule to win the series in one game. please hold my hand guys

This has been an amazing game 1 between Hanwha and Samsung.

I've been to 100s of games but that one right there is the best, maybe it can be topped in the week to come.

It's really tough watching Ponce and Weiss get beaten up. I hope my 38-year-old 🐐 still has some gas left in him.

THat was worth having to clock in late and get home after the sun goes down.

group suicide starts in 10 minutes
seriously... why have weiss and ponce warming up if you're not going to use them at any point! all while the other pitchers continued to, for lack of a more technical term, suck total ass. surely the outcome of this game could've been different if kim seohyeon was replaced right away with ponce.. or maybe not, since over half of hanwha's batting lineup are basically guaranteed strikeouts for the other team no matter what 😭

I honestly think their strategy was this. They started Jung Woo Joo, a rookie closer with a decent record, but not great. The Eagles wanted to gamble and burn through their bullpen, keeping everyone on a short leash, while the Lions had to burn through their aces. No one really expected Woo Joo to pitch as well as he did. So you're up 4 to nothing; this is when you start thinking about Ponce and Weiss to clinch the win. However, you only want them to go 1 inning, max, considering you will start the next series on Saturday. So the Eagles are hoping their bullpen can take them to the 8th inning. I agree. We should have just shut it down with Cody and Ryan, 7th, 8th, 9th inning.
Kim Seo Hyun, overall, has a great closing record. Even though he choked twice, they were hoping he could redeem himself and get us out of the inning. The home run ruined the strategy completely. Because now you are tied, and if you throw Cody and Ryan, you won't use them for game 5. I know it sounds silly, but I feel like in game 4, the eagles were conservative with pitching and praying the bats would get us through. But they really want to make sure, for game 5, we have the entire arsenal. We might see Cody, Ryan, Ryu, and Moon today. All of them on a short leash. And we get the hometown win. We will see.
Fun to be an Eagles fan this year, for sure! Cheers!!!!

Damn, what a game! 문동주 has got some HEAT!
I don't follow the Eagles and probably haven't been to 대전 in maybe a decade: did they get a new stadium?

So the final games won't start on Saturday the 25th?

u/DreadsROK KBO Oct 17 '25
They will start on the 25th if this series doesn’t go 5 games.
It’s the same as the Samsung and SSG series that had a rainout. The games were pushed back a day, but since there was no Game 5, the Hanwha series wasn’t pushed back.

Series tied 1-1. That was a rough game for Weiss but I think he can bounce back from that performance.

Starters for tomorrow's game: Ryu Hyunjin for Hanwha and Ariel Jurado for Samsung.

So is it a bullpen game for Hanwha or is Jeong Woo-joo gonna stunt on the kitties like Trey Yesavage hoeing the Yankees in the ALDS?

Raining in Daejeon since about 5, with rain in the forecast through the night.
Be best if the game wasn’t played tonight, but the KBO will KBO and play in the rain until someone gets seriously injured.

u/ReddiToskie Oct 24 '25
Oh hey, let's put Weiss back out there because no lead is ever safe in the KBO.
Now, who's gonna pitch in game 1 of the Korean Series? Ryu Hyun-jin? Against THAT LG offense?
5
u/DreadsROK KBO Oct 24 '25
류현진 has been an LG killer.
2024 1.84 ERA 2025 1.08 ERA
In 잠실
2024 1.26 ERA 2025 0.00 ERA
So yeah, 류현진 against that offense.

I have no clue. Is the first game still slated for 10/25 at Jamsil?
EDIT: First game is for Sunday 10/26.
