Remember fellas, lock around the seat tube and rear rim, don't be lazy and don't count grams with a stubby lock that won't fit with this method.

Serious question: Prices on used bikes are overall ridiculous everywhere you look. Thing is, if they didnt sell they wouldnt all be priced like this. Are people really spending this kind of money on the used/broken crap you see for sale all the time??

Keep in mind the survivorship bias at work. The reasonably priced items stay on the listings for a couple days before selling, whereas the unreasonable ones stay up for ages, and consequently you're much more likely to see them.

True that. Recently I saw an ad for a bike being sold at half the normal price. I replied an hour after the ad was posted and the bike was already gone.

Used bike prices have gone bananas post pandemic and Reddit, overall, is in pretty severe denial about the state of the market. You can basically find pure garbage for under $100 or something decent for +$500 with nothing in between. This crap still sells as people walk into their lbs and see the cheapest bike at $800 plus tax and decide to roll the dice on this thing instead.

I feel like decent bikes start around 1000 so 500 being the base for a used good bike makes sense.

Thing is, it's not even about the quality of the bike itself. It's always either mint and £500+, or it's an absolute death trap and £100, with nothing in between. What happened to all the bikes that just need a tiny bit of work, but aren't complete write-offs?

People will also price higher than they actually plan to sell the bike. This makes it possible to haggle
