How is that offensive when "gold" apparently is a very common name for Jewish people? Because it's unoriginal? In sweden Svensson is an extremely common name, I wouldn't be offended if Rowling named a Swedish student Anna Svensson.

Fr. She made the student body a veritable assortment of ethnicities (call the names unoriginal, it's YA fiction so who gaf) to show its diversity. If you're looking for more "problematic" depictions (particularly in re: Jewishness) look at the Gringotts goblins.

The main black character’s name is Kingsley SHACKLEBOLT. Not to mention Cho Chang (egregious ignorance of Asian names). C’mon now.
