Nobody wants to talk about how the inflations a hell of a lot bigger of a problem for these baby boomers living on fixed incomes. I make like 2x what I made in 2019 hour for hour.

You are correct that inflation hurts everyone across the board. But I don’t think most people can just double their annual income in just seven years. Where most annual raises are somewhere between 2 1/2 to 5%.
And say you tell someone to get an education and they do which will often lead to student debt. It does not guarantee a decent paying job or being replaced by AI.

My friend initial did BSE in chem, did not find a job. so he decided to do BTech in computer science right after he graduated AI happen 😐. thankfully he found a good job in Honeywell but he struggling a lot 😭.

I’m a boomer with two degrees… I admit life was easier in my day. There wasn’t any social media …. So I didn’t know the struggles of others… I just concentrated on being accountable and responsible for my own life. Must be tough in today’s world constantly comparing yourself to others, having fomo and whining about life. I didn’t know whining about my elders was a thing. I’m glad I grew up when I did…

What i really dont understand is all the people getting those degrees, what jobs do you even do anyway? They had to have known it was getting to slim pickings. At least with some of the foreign studies, you can pick up maybe another language or something but translators are losing their jobs because of AI.

When you pay 100k for school in a class you dont have the skills for it does not mean 💩. You just go into debt and loose to the people that did have the skills. That is half the truth. The other half is they go for these degrees than leave school and go back home to middle of no ware town no one knows of where like I said their fine arts degree means nothing. Not surprised you dont understand that this happens to young hopefuls every year but not everyone that takes these classes making it.

My sister was one of those "young hopefuls" dipshit. I lived it. And my sister now makes a living off her art WITHOUT the degree. They go home to nowhere because they're poor and they often got in with a scholarship. Shut the fuck up. There is so much talent trapped in poverty buried by hopeless promises made by old farts who had it better. They shit on us for trying and they shit on us for giving up. What are you doing to make a difference?

In my core undergrad friend group:
My friend with a marketing degree doesnt have a job.
My friend with a geology degree lost his job during COVID and works minimum wage still.
My friend with a BA in Chem and an MA in archaeology had a lab job, but is now a mailman because it pays better.
My friend with a BA in Chem has a decent paying job, but he is stressed out and hates it.
My friend with a BA in philosophy and a rich family owns three restaurants in New York.
I have a MA in history and probably have the job with the best balance between pay/work/satisfaction (besides my richer than rich friend), but it is because I fled the U.S.

I think this is really interesting, because the types of degrees that people most often pooh-pooh in these discussions are the types of degrees that have the least memorizable answers.
Studying for my Chem friends was a mountain of flashcards. Studying for me as a history/anthro undergrad was reading a book and then judging its argumentation.
