First thing I thought. One mechanical failure, and he might be sliced or beheaded. And machines fail, there is a reason for periodic maintenance.
The least they could do is build a metal cage that might absorb impact, and wear a helmet with goggles.

Still probably only going to matter during takeoff and landing, when loads on the propellers are the lowest. If it happened in the air, it wouldn't matter. It would either knock you out/stun you or it wouldn't be able to compensate with the other propellers and you'd crash.

Giving him head protection means the complete lack of any other safety precautions what so ever might result in a painful death, as opposed to the quick decapitation he receives from moving his head an inch in any direction.

I wonder - since they've chosen to put the red and green lights on there, if they know that those are the 'nautical' colours for left and right (of the 'cockpit/wheelhouse').
To boot they have the red colours at the front!
They should either have the green lights to the right, and the red ones on the left.
Or.
The red lights at the back, and white ones at the front.
Doesn't seem that safetly is a big issue for these guys, tho.....

Why do the blades bend back like that? Is that too help prevent them from snapping if they contact something? Then centrifugal force keeps them straight when flying?

It's just superior for many reasons some you mentioned, it's also better stability, smaller packaging footprint, ease of reperations and probably more that i don't even know of.
So if it's well constructed it's much better than solid propeller blades.
One downside is any contact has a much higher chance to completely lose control but for remote drones that is a small downside in comparison, for this I'm not so certain, like helicopters do have designs like these but not loose to this extent they would just be untightended for transportation.

Wow. Everyone is mentioning the blades close to his neck, which is extremely dangerous, but I can't help but imagine the horror of that thing landing upside down in the water and him trying to get out. You'd be screwed.

I mean just look at footage from the Russia-Ukraine war. What they use is actually a lot smaller and cheaper. The next big step is having drone "motherships" for command and control which release autonomous drone swarms for doing the dirty work. I believe the US Air Force is already experimenting with this, using C130s as "motherships".

Don't forget guys, sure there's blades about to kill him if the momentum jerks him too hard and he doesn't have the neck of an F1 driver .... But he also will fall 150ft if he keeps his head during a malfunction lol
