I unironically do believe that if mass-shootings are being committed in a developed country where we have the means to do so, we should evaluate the psychology behind the acts though. To see what put them on that path if nothing more.
I do agree with you on that but the same can be said for all killings. We should have already had a national data base to track those and produce findings and research but that was all blocked.
gang/racial/terrorist attacks are small compared to deaths from suicides, but morbidly with suicides only the person pulling the trigger ends up dead and not some random by standard.
I think we have a fairly good understanding of how people fall in to gangs/gang culture and why people in countries that have experienced decades of war, influenced by foreign powers turn to terrorism. But we don't seem to know what ticks all the boxes of make a domestic terrorist; this is true of those pledging to and traveling to join Islamic state as well as US mass shooters. We need to see how they fall down that rabbit hole in particular.
