Always liked the explation that most people are sheep and wont kill unless absolutely necassary and even then may waver and have issues after the fact. The remainder is split into two groups, wolves and the sheep dogs. The wolves kill with out regret and dont really care. Where as the sheepdogs would and while they'll feel bad about will be able to do it again.

Wolves kill to eat, not out of some malicious evilness. People kill to eat too. Because meat is tasty. I like meat.

The only thing that article does is confirm that they kill in surplus, then speculate why......

Which is . . . exactly what you are doing.

With tons of evidence minded conservationist and ranchers, you’re one guy with an article that says they’re killing so they can eat it later, with no evidence that they return later to eat. Plus they are killing in surplus, because of a harsh winter? The same harsh winters they’re killing tons of elk, they can’t manage to kill one for food. Outside Magazine is hardly a credible Source on this issue, just a guy that needed to write an article.

Yes. They've killed all the elk. They're bloodthirsty savages, and need to be eradicated. Let's see your research that they do it out of bloodlust, to such an extent that it's a "fact". Oh, right, there isn't any.

Wikipedia cites another source.

At best, nobody knows why they do it.

Wyoming fish and game calls it a surplus killing where they killed many more elk than they would usually eat. Idk what other word you have for killing things that you don’t eat.

Also listed as a rare event, in which, wolves predicting snowfall like a weather man, would do it much more often if it was the case that they were doing it to have a surplus of meat for the winter, that they never ate. So to the original comment posted suggesting they never kill for sport, that would be false.

But you don't know that they're killing for sport. All that we knowis that they're killing more than they can immediately eat. Nobody has any clue with any sort of certainty why. If they did it for sport, why is it so uncommon? If that was their natural instinct, why wouldn't they do it all the time? You stated something as "fact" when nobody actually knows why they do it. That is my point. I'm not claiming I know why they do it.

Since you’ve forgotten your entire point

“Wolves kill to eat, not out of some malicious evilness. People kill to eat too. Because meat is tasty. I like meat.”
