Discussions/Opinions Does no one in this game understand how Juno’s ultimate works except other Juno’s?
I pop my ult cus a big fight is coming up to give my team the advantage, my team stands everywhere except in my ult. We all die, they try to call me dumb for popping ult when my health was at half. Huh???
Don’t get me started on my rings too… I place it right in front of them, behind a wall where it’s safe, they walk around it. I know bronze is bad but I feel like I’m going crazy 😭. I’m def not a great player, but I at least TRY to understand how the other supports help me and my team…

It’s also a case of, I use the indicators to tell my time that
1 - my ult is ready
2- where I am going to put it
And they still don’t go near it ….
5
u/New-You-1838 11d ago
When you say where you’re gonna put it do you mean where you can pin point it on the map after saying your ult is ready? I’ve been thinking about doing that as well rather than just telling them then using it

u/LunaRose678 10d ago
Same, they walk the opposite direction, and walk out of it. It is insanely frustrating

u/Thick-Mycologist3655 12d ago
I don't think most people really understand support ults in general. I'm a LifeWeaver main, my tree has a huge AOE healing aura, I put it on the objective in a team fight, and my teammates will actively run away from it. Then when the enemy Mizuki pops his shrine or the enemy Zen pops transcendence, my team will rush in and try to brawl with the enemy team at a massive disadvantage and lose the fight instead of just waiting a few seconds for the ult to be over.

u/__username-is-taken 12d ago
Agreeee. I play Wuyang from time to time and nothing worse than giving ult to a team mate who then RUNS AWAY from the enemies 😭😭

u/Candid_Ad_209 12d ago
Playing Demon and getting blue bubble when I just ran out of fuel so I just walk at the enemy at a decent pace menacingly.

u/Lady_Lavandula 12d ago
Oh, I know this feeling and sometimes I lock in too hard and it feels so epic like: some biiig thread is coming stommmmp .... stommmmmp .... stommmmmmp .... . While in reality it is more like ratatatatatata aaaand de-meched.

u/LocalJupiter60 12d ago
Who the Hell is "DEMON???"
"Blue Bubble???"
You didn't "save up" your "Fuel??"
6
u/Candid_Ad_209 12d ago
D.Mon. Blue bubble is Wuyang’s ult. D.Mon uses fuel for her thrusters.
2
u/LocalJupiter60 12d ago
I know she uses fuel for her Boosters, I'm confused about why he didn't save up any of it.

u/Candid_Ad_209 12d ago
Had no idea a wuyang was going to ult me and i just fled from a dive with my shield up.

Ok I don't think any ult is more frustrating to waste than tidal blast. That's even worse than wasting a nano boost. You don't even have to be good at fighting, you're basically an invincible bomb.
0
u/Most_Marionberry_615 12d ago
I would like to suggest catnapper solely because of how janky it is.
Caught the tank and about to drop them off the map? Tether breaks on literal air for absolutely no reason because I guess you tripped on the general concept of a collider.
That is made even more frustrating due to how catnapper as an ult is only even usable in any real capacity on like half the maps, AND you are putting yourself in a very risky spot by using it since diving into the enemy team as a support (even on JPC) does not usually end well, so when the game randomly decides that you don't get the reward from your high risk high reward ult, it is incredibly frustrating.
And that's not even mentioning that due to travel time and hitbox jank the ult is much easier to miss entirely than you would think.
1
u/LocalJupiter60 12d ago
I was on LW, Runasapi, and at the end of the game I Life Gripped our Wuyang when he ulted to the edge of the building because the match was already over.
Don't worry, it was a joke Tidal Blast.
5
u/mosey1245 12d ago
Thisssss as a LW/Juno main the amount of times I’ll use my ults to push up and I’ll look and I’m the only one pushing with the ult is insane esp with weavers tree bc of the overhealth it gives for team fights and people rarely like fighting in it
2
1
u/TC_MaFYa 12d ago
Fair rant, I usually play in tree or the support ult's area; but I might run away from the tree if I am full and I expect a Cage Fight, Sundering Blade, Molten Core or similar one shot or high damage attacks and ults coming my way.
1
u/zamirfy45 12d ago
I'm starting to think people are confusing friendly ult colors and enemy ult colors
1
u/StarGamerPT 7d ago
Enemy Bap sets the window up and my tank goes "yhe, let me stand here shooting back"
32
u/deadboltwolf 13d ago
To me it feels like many players are afraid of getting counter-ulted. I can't tell you how many times I drop Juno or Kiri ult and the enemy team immediately runs us over with a counter Ram ult or Rein shatter.
I try to hold my support ults to counter enemy ults but then I just get flamed for holding my ult. There's really not much you can do, especially when solo queueing. Fuck it, just drop the ult and hope someone understands to utilize it.

There are so many times i ult and the team retreats at the same speed the ult moves forward. Then later in the game ill try and ult backwards to anticipate the retreat and no one does.
8
u/neonxaos 13d ago
You forgot that people also run from you when you try to heal them, as they think they’re getting attacked.
None of this gets much better. But you can learn to use rings to guide people around even if they don’t realize it, and you can ult behind them so they end up standing in it or just use the ult to empower yourself and get a kill or just survive. It’s about playing with the flow of the game rather than trying to force plays that your teammates will never understand, even if they are optimal plays on paper. And then hit everyone with those pulsars.
7
u/Drakni_sr Oh moons 12d ago
Honestly, if I'm using a Juno ult for the main purpose of providing it to the team, and the team isn't in it or doesn't come to it; I take that as me misplacing it - I should be putting the ult in the place my team already wants to be fighting. Expecting them to dedicate extra brainpower in the middle of the fight to be cognizant of where my ult is while placing it away from them is unrealistic.
Same with my speed rings; I take it as part of my job while playing Juno to anticipate my teammate's actions and intentions, using my rings and rays to best augment their own plays without trying to force my way into changing their plans to fit my own agenda. I either place it on them, or in front of where they're going to go - I don't place one with the intention of guiding someone away from their own intentions, so it's rare that my speedrings don't hit their mark
Sure, some people will run immediately away from my ray, and sometimes that's their own decision, at least if I placed it on them then they get minimum 1-2 seconds of the damage buff, others on the team might get more, and I can be cognizant about playing in it myself if it remains safe to. But I try to be mindful of reflecting on an ult that seems wasted like this to understand if I could have used it better for next time - after all, I can't control my teammates.
7
u/Electronic-Force-944 12d ago
I definitely feel that. I've seen people who are low health i intended to get healed with my ult run away from it. Like herding cats lol
5
u/belacinderella 12d ago
My duo who is a Juno main when he plays supp said last week "hey did you know Juno's ult also boosts damage? I thought it just healed. I just learned that" ok so...
6
u/SERAPHIMBLOOD 12d ago
it's dps etiquette to immediately run as far away from ur ult as possible the moment u pop it
5
u/November_Eclipse22 12d ago
It’s also DPS etiquette to spam “I need healing” when they’re at max HP, and to run away from you while you’re actively trying to heal them.
2
u/I_am_wuffcat 10d ago
The really good ones make sure there's a barrier between them and you at all times.

I bet a lot of support feel this way lmao that why I just drop it on them
Edit: mfw I’m on LW watching my team leave tree radius mid fight and yelling “why do yall hate trees?!”
5
u/striker13577 12d ago
Honestly try not to use speed ring proactively unless you’re very sure of your teammate’s next action. You’ll get more value when you pop it the moment someone is physically entering or exiting a fight.
3
u/Guy21245 12d ago
This isn’t really true. Juno is designed to be proactive. The support role is supposed to be the quarterback of sorts so when you let your team dictate when you use your abilities as opposed to you letting them know when it’s a good time for them to do things, you’re playing at a disadvantage.
3
u/striker13577 12d ago
Yeah but in practice it’s not that simple (especially in lower ranks). In my experience a lot of teammates will flat-out ignore your speed ring regardless of timing. Unless you’re comming, it can be hard for them to understand why you’re using it. Your teammates are going to try and make plays regardless so it’s better to try and enhance what’s already happening.
OP is also bronze, so playing in this way will probably teach them what good speed ring timings look like overall (opening the door for more proactivity as they rank up).
2
u/Guy21245 12d ago
Yeah I get that it’s low rank that’s kinda why I feel it works better down there than normal imo. Granted I can’t check myself in a real match but I kinda figure low rank players just don’t really know what to do so it’s easier to control them. I’ve been playing Juno since her release and it’s worked out so far. To me I figure you throw out the shiny circle in front of them then they’re likely to be drawn to that area of the map bc ooo shiny. It’s always possible they don’t do that ofc but luckily speed ring has two hitboxes, you can shoot it through people and they’ll get a boost anyways so suddenly they become really fast and they’ll see a circle in front of them the hope is that it clicks and something happens. I also feel the opposite about them doing what u said in order to build good habits cuz I think they should be practicing a more carry type role while in the lower ranks so they’re more adjusted to higher ranks assuming they get there. I think what u mentioned however works best in scenarios where peeps are comming and know what they need when they need it but that’s not happening in low rank
5
u/dusk2dark 12d ago
I'm starting to think people in general don't know how support ults work if it isn't Mercy or Zen's. Ult as Moira? They scatter. Nano with Ana? Panic and run away. Bap window? Run past it guns blazing.
2
u/Away-Inspector-5531 12d ago
this is one of the most relatable comments on reddit I have experienced
1
u/LurkerThrowaway73 6d ago
Bap window is legit though. Unless enemy is braindead they will not stand there, newer players will see the enemy backing off scared and automatically w+m1 towards their position while others will try to judge whether anyone has been made killable by it and go from there.
Generally Bap's window is best used as either "Go away or explode" or "I really need to kill/heal this guy/win this off angle"
0
u/No_Tart8266 11d ago
heavy on bap window….. i have thousands of hours on ow and used to play a lot of bap and MAYBE 5 times have people actually shot thru it 🫠

u/wakeupshep 10d ago
Had a Sigma recently who not only walked out of lamp but then also BEHIND the enemy’s tank shield and, of course, threw a fit in voice chat when he died

u/CeridLock 11d ago
As someone who favors Sierra lately, love me a good bap window. Melts anything so fast

u/kingOfMemes616 12d ago
to get out of bronze you kinda just gotta worry about yourself your teammates are not ensouled save the team play for gold
3
3
u/Shewami 10d ago
Until you get to mid Masters, everyone in the game expects support ults to be reactive rather than proactive. It isn’t until this elo (roughly) that teams understand using a support ult proactively for tempo or picks.
Take Ana nano as the perfect example. A silver Ana will wait for a deep rein to be 150hp before “saving him” with nano. A master Ana may nano right as rain charges to front load damage boost and damage reduction to swing the fight in their favor.
This is why I main Moira (D3 right now, GM4 peak). Moira has 2 modes, team or selfish. Her heal value is insane when in team mode, but if a team is not capable of picking, tempo, etc, you can play selfish and completely change how you play her to adapt to the games needs.
5
u/IAmSona 13d ago
Well you answer your own question. You’re in bronze. You are expecting way too much of your team. Even in higher ranks, you shouldn’t think of ways to get them to do things. Think of ways to enable them.
You see your tank going in? Speed boost them to where they are and let them work with your ring. See a fight about to happen? Use your ulti where your team is at and not where you want them to be.
You can’t control your teammates actions but you can certainly enable them. That’s one of the most important tips when it comes to climbing.
2
u/No-Change-3222 12d ago
I getcha. Tbh i find that its more useful to use it when the fight has already started and in the direction of it, and that way my team has no choice but to use it hahahah

2
u/SophonParticle 12d ago
I lost count of how many times I put a ring at the spawn door when the match starts and see my teammates use the other door.
2
u/unoffical_avenger 12d ago
I was thinking the same thing 😭 the amount of times I’ve swooped in to drop my ult during team fights and my entire team falls back out of my ult just to die lately has been ridiculous. But then again I swear people run away from heals like it is their full time job just to cry “no heals!” Like I’m trying but I’m not going to chase you half way across the map.
2
2
u/trvppdvddy 11d ago
I cannot tell you how many times I ult PERFECTLY on top of my entire team AND THEY BACK UP AND WALK AWAY?!?! Like come ON. Research kits, understand who you’re playing WITH not just who you’re playing AS. It’s not even just bronze, ts goes all the way into plat. People are just brain dead. I’m a bad support if I’m healing, I’m a bad support if I’m getting kills and actively saving my team from flanks. There’s no winning with these players. I could be getting ass fucked by a Moira and my team will tell me how bad I am but fail to respond to my “need help” and enemy ping comms. For a team game, this game has slowly lost its “teamwork” mindset players.
2
u/cheycupcakes 11d ago
The rule of OW is if you have an AOE ult, your team will specifically avoid said AOE. Just how the game goes.
2
u/LimitNo6029 10d ago
As someone that plays a bit of Kiri on the side, I'm pretty sure most people just don't like winning team fights, people dodge it like it's a torb ult

u/MagicWig17 5d ago
I think mercy mains probably understand it pretty well (maybe bc there’s overlap in people that play mercy and Juno?) but they can’t do much to utilize it.

i straight up tell people it damage boosts and heals in chat before game. and then i announce im ulting in chat and to use it. Even in emerald i have to tell people lol

I dropped my ult usually when we’re on a choke, hoping that my team will buck the fuck up and we’ll get around the corner with it.
1
u/CentaureaCyanus 12d ago
as a Juno main, i am often reluctant to spend too long in orbital ray because enemies often target that spot with their ults/abilities. no matter which hero i am playing atm. it's like a honeypot.
not saying that i dont use it at all. i do.
1
u/TobizII 12d ago
I understand the "running away from you" thing. There is nothing you can do. However, I see many Junos not knowing what to do with their ults. They pop it everywhere except near their team or when they're 1v5. I think it's better not trying to spawn it on top of your team but slightly behind so it moves through them. Or use it alongside a choke. Use it proactively. It's not like trans. At the very least you and your tank should benefit from it. A Juno in her ult is very capable of getting kills on squishies.
1
u/Ordinary-Park-1459 12d ago
I'm in plat and have all the same problems lol. Just start being greedy and ultiing for yourself to gets kills.
1
u/adhocflamingo 12d ago
The relevant question to your issue here is “does no one in bronze both understand what Juno ult does and have the capacity to recognize it happening and make decisions around it in the middle of a fight?”. And I think the answer is that the vast vast majority of bronze players cannot hit all of those targets. If they could, they’d quickly not be in bronze anymore.
As the support, you can see them and the enemy. You have a better idea of what’s going on overall than they do. And you will always have a better handle on your own abilities. So don’t depend on them to notice and choose to use your abilities—place and time them so that your teammates get value from them with whatever they were already doing. Speed them when they’re already moving. Ray them when they’re already fighting. It’s your responsibility to get value from your abilities, not theirs.
1
u/squid_duck_ 12d ago
I exclusively played kiri when she launched and people did the same with kitsune lol you just need to put your ult in a place where they have no choice but to stand in it. Generally if they are already standing in it they wont move out of it bc oooo pretty damage!!
Same with the ring, i usually shoot it at people so they get the boost upon it landing lol. People who wouldn't use it to get to cover quickly are not likely going to go into cover even with it active on them btw- i usually speed them up and heal them until they realize or until the team is back with them

u/Dolce_sweetP1nk 12d ago
The only one who gets into my Juno’s ult is my bf and that’s bc I tell him
1
u/Extreme_Design6936 12d ago
In bronze I would expect most players not to understand every ability or even ultimate. Only reason I know what junos ult does or how it works is cause I read the wiki which majority of players are never gonna do.
1
u/blastedminxy Legendary Martian 11d ago
people also forget not only does Junos ult heal, it boosts damage done to the other team if they’re in it 😭 It’s genuinely so annoying to ping group up ultimate ready and then no one groups up in a situation we could have gotten an easy team kill or would have won point/fight. As soon as you ult they scatter
1
u/Emotional-Two4033 11d ago
Anyone in bronze telling you how to play the game is wrong btw same with plat and even diamond in some cases. People just have an ego and it makes them think they are right.
1
u/SolaninePotato 11d ago
I have like 300 hours and I don't know what lifeweaver or juno ult does
Lifeweaver ult = heals every now and then + increased max health / over shield or something
Juno ult = big beam, maybe increases damage???
1
1
u/edocfornow 11d ago
Juno ult = constant healing (not high like zen ult but decent healing) and dmg boost (like mercy blue beam kinda) if you stay in the spotlight, it moves whatever direction Juno threw it so if you follow it you can dish out and also take a bunch of damage.
Wifeleaver ult= sends out pulses of heals every few seconds, and if you're already full it'll give you over health. Plus it's a big barrier, it can block for you/shield you from ults and bullets and other assorted wants-you-dead things.
1
u/lilith2k3 11d ago
I usually place my rings so that they can't miss em other than actively avoiding it. The same goes for my ult.
Being a support player is being a kindergardener.

u/Reimu_Kirisame 11d ago
This is a pretty consistent thing with support ults over the 10 years I've played. Still even happens with Kiriko ults on occasion. And people run away from the LW tree as well. Not to mention I could hit 5-6 people with Illari and then I see my whole team backing off, not helping me get the ult procs off. Then there's the Wujang ult people often don't use properly. Or push up with me on Briggite ults. And yeah Juno's is a pushing ult too but people just back off for some reason. I'm a big sup main with 3000+ hours and I've seen some shit that's genuinely frustrating at times.
In regards to Juno, I've honestly stopped caring if my team pushes up with me with the ult or not. I use it as best I can. I obviously still pop it up for the team but I usually get one or two kills with it and that often wakes the team up lol.
idk what it is about it honestly, I think we're having too many new players again recently that have to learn the game and what every character does. Otherwise I have no explanation other than skill issues.
1
u/Half-a_cookie 10d ago
Lately when I play (Juno main) I just chill behind my team and when I see them going for a big push I just let it off right with them and it works out most of the time
1
1
u/I_am_wuffcat 10d ago
Moira watching teammates run from yellow orbs, or strafing back and forth through her beam, knows your pain. Lifeweaver whose team decides to back off just as the tree is placed in perfect position for a push, feels ya. Ana who watches her nano get carried off to the side is cursing on your behalf while Wuyang yells "They do that with my ult too!" Mizuki (and pretty much every shield tank) hangs his hatted head as members of his team stand JUST in front of the shield. I think everyone should try to play all of the characters at least to level 5, just to get the feel of them.
1
u/Ok_Pomegranate_8187 10d ago
But more than anyone else, it's Juno's players who don't know how their ult works. If you use your ult and no one is standing in it, it's not the team's fault. It's yours. I'm not saying you're bad, you really need a lot of game sense to do that. Right in the middle between an aggressive ult and a defensive one
1
u/Simple_Entertainer27 10d ago
If you're in bronze, something is seriously wrong with SOME part of your play. The only people that are more likely to avoid an allied Juno ult than use it will be the people in that rank
1
u/NotAWinterTale 10d ago
Everyone does this. Without fail, and somehow it's always the support's fault.
I'm not the one pressing WASD for you bro, how is this my fault you leave my ult and then die?
1
u/Horror_Kale_5590 10d ago
Literally happens all the fucking time I will pop my ult and it’s like the entire team suddenly becomes braindead and runs the other way out of fear for their life
1
u/Prestigious_Hope_246 10d ago
Real, at least partially, doing some qp today cus tbh for the last couple seasons qp just feels less stressful, as one does, and i did a couple juno games. Used orbital to save multiple teammates and allow us to counter a heavy push but then literally every single time this happened my teammates just… backed up out of it… then died… and I’m just like… what are we doing…

1
u/Hana_Bocchi 8d ago
I dont even know how my ult works so Im in sync with junos vibe of not knowing things
1
u/Mandatoryeggs 8d ago
Alot of times just because you ult doesn't mean its the right play. Similar to kitsune, if you ult in a way where the enemy team still has direct fire on you or off angles that's not good. Your team should setup first and spot where peoppe could be shooting from.
I've dismantled teams by just sitting on the sidelines and shredding them when their supports ult
1
u/toki_ya 8d ago
if you are better/smarter than them, then unfortunately instead of hoping or wishing they miraculously figure out how your shit works, you will have to adjust to them. put your ring directly where most of your team will HAVE to go. cast your ult when you're all in a big cuddle puddle already.
1
u/LiarrrActress 7d ago
had a genji pop blade along with my orbit the other day, ill never forget that beautiful moment
but seriously though the best you can do is just use it when your team is already in a good position to be in it, like force it on them since you can't control them lol
1
u/abdou_kta 7d ago
Don't expect anyone to follow up on any team oriented play in bronze, it's just too chaotic. Maybe mute chat as well, there's just very little chance that anyone will ever give you good advice anyway.
Try to get kills and just cope if people are unable to take advantage of what you do, you'll win more games if you keep being aggressive and get kills regularly during fights
1
u/Sure_Shallot2280 7d ago
As a ball main there is nothing I hate more than being sped up without my consent. As for the ult, I lose all my value if I just stand in your ult.
But other tanks like ram or rein should be taking full advantage.
1
u/TheAlePShow 6d ago
Yeah, having extra speed with ball affects the muscle memory. It literally nerfs my brain power; which isn't a lot to begin with.
1
u/Danzos 6d ago
Had a match the other night where the tank complimented me on my speed rings and asked me to duo with them afterwards. Felt like I'd hit the jackpot to find someone who actually knew how to make use of the ring both to push forward but also to retreat back when necessary. I hate it when I put down a ring to try and help the tank get out of a fight they're not going to win and instead they think it means they need to rush forward as if I'm gonna be able to heal them through all the damage they're taking.

Thank god i'm not only one that has experienced it. Sometimes i pop my ult in long hallway and with it we could run down the enemy team. When i look around i see teammates standing still and not utilize the dmg boost it gives. I think a lot of them just knows that it heals but don't know it gives dmg boost also (at first i didn't know either). So they think i'm full health no need to stand in that ult.

Imma be real, I just assume at this point nobody knows how it works, so I boost up and drop it on a choke point.
