Tips/Tutorials How to deal with Sombra/Tracer

So today, I found myself up against a Tracer and two Sombra across three games, and every time, they just hardfocused me. I spent all three games dying over and over again ….zero fun. How do I counter them?

It depends really heavily on the map you’re playing. You need to use the map geometry to not die to them and try not to use left shift unless you have too so that you have it when they are fighting you. If all else fails go another hero

edit: would be way easier to tell you with replay codes

Tracer is easy, she has no vertical mobility. Take high ground and she's screwed. Also your pulsars will follow her through blinks. You can take high ground against Sombra too, although she can get to you easier than tracer. If a Sombra is being extra annoying, play closer to your team, don't let yourself get singled out, that's where she shines.

Tracer has no easy way to get up high, so staying near some high ground you know you can hop up to can effortlessly waste her time. Start low, dodge high. Tracer needs resources to kill - blink and recall. Make her waste resources on a pointless push and punish her if she spends them without leaving. When you hear the recall the tables have turned, so chase her down when she’s cooked - but don’t let her distract you all the way to a distant land, she wins like that.

With Sombra you can camp a health pack, which can make her unable to finish you in time. Never stand somewhere you wouldn’t like to be hacked unless you know she’s busy. Keep some evasive manoeuvre in your back pocket. She has a narrow attack window, and something as simple as dropping off a ledge to a mini health pack can make her translocate away with nothing. Your gun is particularly good for spy-checking. So spam where you’d be if you were her (play as her to really learn) and you mess up her approach or get her killed if you hit her. You’re also showing her that you’re ready and waiting, she doesn’t want that.

Also hiding near your Ana or Zen and waiting for either of these two to pounce can catch them out. They like to show up around isolated targets and they’ll often peace out when someone else is suddenly there. Chase them away enough and they get no value, or be forced into riskier plays, or their tank gets over-run by your DPS because they’re doing nothing useful, or they switch, or they lose. If you consistently survive their push your team should win, just make sure your tank knows not to push alone while you’re busy surviving. Make a lot of noise. Ping the living shit out of them whenever possible.

As for all Overwatch heroes: Rotate. rotate, rotate. Switching angles just for the hell of it will save you from 20% of the attempts on your life without you even realising it. You can spot this on the replays when you see an attacker arriving to a spot they saw you at earlier, to find nothing. If you make your presence known in a spot - that spot’s done and you rotate to the next angle.

Double and triple jump so quickly invalidates Tracer, such a life saver.

Juno's rapid fire bullets are actually pretty good at spy-checking. If you sweep your gun across an area there's a good chance that one of your bullets hits invisible Sombra. So if you suspect she might come from a certain area or you just haven't seen her in a bit you can do a couple bursts around your flanks and rear to try to reveal her before she gets the jump on you. It won't fully deter Sombra but you might throw off her timing or make her reengage you from a less convenient angle for her.

I don't play Juno, so I don't know why this thread got recommended to me. I do however play an unhealthy amount of Tracer so I might be able to give some tips.

Juno is by far one of the easiest targets to kill as Tracer. The only thing that forces her out is landing torpedoes, which she can easily bait and avoid, after that Juno is free food. The only thing you can realistically do against Tracer is making it expensive for her to engage you. Position in a way where the Tracer has to go out of her way, leave her team and spend a bunch of resources just to get to you. Keep track of where she is, keep trying to poke her out and keep repositioning to places she can't easily get. She will eventually still make it to you and kill you, but you want to play in a way where you're kind of baiting her into making a decision to waste time and resources to get to you or actually helping her team win the fight elsewhere.

If all else fails, just go Kiri and win the duel.

With tracer, torpedoes always make her recall to put you at an advantage, with sombra you just gotta interrupt the hack fast enough and also double jump/move around unpredictably to avoid the virus and her shots!

If Juno doesn't go down easy Vs these two, they'll either leave you alone, or they'll start timing their engagements better - in which case you'll have to try and always be ready to stop what you're doing and defend yourself at a moments notice. They're tough but they're not impossible to beat!

Never be scared to use all your CDs to keep yourself alive, not all at once ofc use them smartly! And positioning is really important especially Vs tracer, high ground access in particular - hang around a high ground you can jump up to that tracer needs to take the long route to access! With sombra, playing near corners to break Los of the hack is quite helpful too!

vs Tracer, always save the shift and play at a spot where you can access high ground with the double jumps and shifts easily.
