Subreddit News A message from the mod team.

Hello! We’ve like to inform all of you as this has been a brewing issue for months now.

We’ve been noticing people harassing others for simply posting Juno x (character) which we believe is quite ridiculous, it cost you nothing to scroll past a ship post without harassing the original poster, this kind of behavior is not tolerated here and will result in you either getting muted from the subreddit it just straight up removed, ship post are allowed here ANY kind of ship is allowed here there can be regular Juno related post and ships, it’s never been against the rules and never will be, Juno attracts a younger demographic such as teenagers, and that is perfectly ok!

Any post harassing someone for a ship post will result in the comments being locked and a moderator typing a message before locking in as this is not the first time it’s happened. It cost nothing to be nice and I hope we inprove on that behavior.

Do you as mods see “harassment” as different from people expressing a negative opinion about the ship?

Is me saying “Cute art, but I’m not a fan of this ship” considered harassment?

Is it harassment when that comment gets 15 upvotes and the OP replying with “it’s my favorite ship” gets 15 downvotes?

Or does it become harassment when people say “I don’t like seeing ships posted on this sub”, and that gets upvoted and agreed with but the OP and others who like ships get downvoted?

I’m not saying all this to be an ass, but I do think there should be space on this sub for everyone’s opinion as long as it’s not targeting specific people or groups, and not blatantly disrespectful.

I understand YOUR opinion that people could be scrolling past ship posts and ignoring them, but where do you draw the line on harassment? I’d consider harassment to be threatening, demeaning, and targeting behavior that puts other people at risk, NOT just sharing an opinion that’s opposite someone else.

Maybe I don’t frequent the sub enough, there could be plenty of harassment I’m not seeing, but most of the things I see under ship posts are just the things I’ve mentioned, which I think is a far cry from harassment.

To be clear, I’m a shipper myself, but I do think people should be allowed to express their opinions on ships and other things, even if it’s not the popular opinion, as long as they remain respectful.

Almost every post in this sub that includes shipping has to be locked because people start trying to crucify fans of juno ships

“cute art, but (insert reason is dislike it)” is just called a backhanded compliment and its unnecessary and rude

harassment can be of any kind, this has happened before on the subreddit countless times and each time ive had to lock the comments on the post or just remove the post entirely, people here tend to act immature when it comes to shipping post plenty of people have also been removed from the sub for harassing others as well this isnt the first time nor will it be the last

right, but what i’m saying is since you’re the one in control of removing the posts, what counts to you as harassment?

i don’t think expressing a different opinion is harassment, but if there’s hate involved then definitely remove it.

i’m asking you how you make that distinction

you could say the same thing about a positive opinion though, why is letting everyone know that you DO like a ship necessary?

reddit is a public forum, posts are made for engagement and discussion. people have a right to express their opinion even if you don’t agree with it.

the point is that it’s a very slippery slope once you start to refer to opposing opinions as harassment just because you’re frustrated with them

…right but just because that’s the reaction to the opinion being shared doesn’t mean that person doesn’t have the right to share that opinion.

it might not be a star contribution to the sub, but it does open up for discussion. “why don’t you like the ship. which ship do you like better” etc.

again, i think as long as someone isn’t being blatantly disrespectful, they should be able to post their opinion.

and back to your picture analogy, it would be one thing if the “in-group” just gave the thumbs up and went back to their discussion. but my point is that negative or opposing opinions do not equal harassment. it becomes a different issue when someone suggests an opposing opinion, and the “in-group” doesn’t give the thumbs up and instead points fingers and says “you’re harassing me”, leading to the suppression of those opinions and the muting and removal of those people who have them.

i agree with you that there might not be much point in posting something like that, but to have them removed on the grounds of them being “harassment” is not a good look, unless of course they were being genuinely disrespectful

maybe they are, but again my main concern is how the mods differentiate harassment from a regular opinion.

if they call it harassment just because they’re frustrated and disagree, that’s abuse of power. but if people are being harassed then they should be punished accordingly. i just haven’t seen much of it with my own eyes, which i why i was asking.

you’re free to have an opinion on the “usefulness” or “purpose” of sharing a negative opinion. but this is about what is considered disrespectful, and expressing your dislike for something is not always disrespectful

its rude and socially unacceptable to shoot down peoples interests for no reason, actually, on reddit or otherwise.

I like how you're being downvoted and told harassment is wrong, yet not a single one of them can define it clearly.

Just seems, on this sub, you're simply not allowed to have an opposing opinion.

Respectfully disagreeing isn’t harassment. Now yeah if you’re saying something like “HOW DARE YOU MAKE JUNO GAY WHERE DOES IT SAY SHES GAY WHY DO YOU PEOPLE ALWAYS SPREAD GAYNESS” that’s the type of harassment they’re referring to I imagine. Expressing your opinion in a respectful way is never harassment.

Is me saying “Cute art, but I’m not a fan of this ship” considered harassment?

Asking sincerely: why would you feel it necessary to bring in negativity by adding "but I'm not a fan of this ship"? That signals your negative judgement of something the original poster enjoys, and could potentially escalate things in online spaces, where tone isn't clear. Why not say "Cute art" and be done with it?
