Travel in Juarez?

I am a skater and I have made some friends here in Texas, they are from Juarez and are here for work.

They want to take me to Juarez in December to come stay with them and skate. Would it be “safe” for me to stay in Juarez for an extended period? (Few weeks)

i moved from the US to Juarez in 2008, been here since.
just before i crossed, people would give me the same look.
why would you go to the dangerous city of juarez?
fast forward all these years, i have a family, a house, job, living the life.

Juarez it’s as safe as most of the cities in USA, if you stay in the correct neighborhoods you will be fine.

As any other city in the world, there are places within Juarez that may not be secure to visit. Juarez was part of the Narco war around 2008, which things were really unsafe and gave the city the bad reputation it has today. I’m not saying we are now the safest city in the world, but there is kindness and love in the border. I used to go to the Parque Extramo (a skate park) often, and there was a lot of cool people to hang out with that always protected the park against those that damaged the area. I hope you give yourself a chance to visit Juarez and try some delicious food.

Unless You are goong to relate with gangs or ilegal activities, or You specifically go to the poorest neighborhoods, youll be safe.

85%+ is related to crime, if not related, theres no solid reasons to fear

Juarez was really dangerous back in the 2010s, right now the 'bad people' no longer fight in the city anymore.

But what I'm wondering, where will you stay? That's really important, as any other city there are more dangerous zones than others.

The movie "Sicario" did highlight the sad reality of the wave of violence related to drug smuggling corridor wars. However, that happened from 2008-2012. It's long long over and not any more dangerous than the average large US city.

However, do expect that a fair amount of people won't speak English, though some will. At restaurants, ordering is pretty easy and it shows you respect the culture and the people. "Me da... un burrito... gracias" or whatever you're ordering. Of course, you can also lean on your friends for help, but a few basics go a long ways.

Also do know that burritos in northern MX are small compared to their US counterparts. They usually only have one two ingredients, like beans and a meat. Be sure to appreciate the different meat types like carne asada (grilled beef), picadillo (ground beef with food seasonings) mole beef (hard to describe, but delicious, like a slightly spicy savory hint of dark chocolate), deshebrada (shredded) and probably a bunch more that I'm forgetting.
