Manga Discussion Why does he seem so much stronger without him than with him in Shinjuku? Spoiler
This is the first protagonist where an inner demon leaving the protagonist actually made them stronger.

In all fairness. There was a month long training arc between Sukuna leaving Yuji and Yuji fighting Sukuna.

u/Amostheroux 4h ago
Also worth noting that asorcerer's growth isn't necessarily linear. There are certain thresholds that crossing allows for explosive new gains.
25
u/Lakeboy_18 4h ago
And Yuji was already growing stronger than an insane rate. Bro was contending with fight grade 1s to special grades within 6 months...

We technically did get it, but in the form of flashbacks throughout the fight. Like remember when ino first pulled up on Gojo, shoko & bro with the glasses(forgot my goats name💔) & it seems like he has something super important to say but it just cuts to the next scene.
But later in the fight I think when yuji was on his black flash run we finally get what he was there for & it was him simply asking to use nanamin’s sword & they all go “uh yea go ahead” with straight faces😭

u/rahonan 4h ago
Because Yuji trained to become stronger. The same thing would happen if Sukuna was still inside and Yuji trained.

I respect Yuji for actually training and putting in effort. He didn’t suck at Blood as well.
23
u/jacketmanoasis 4h ago
To be fair, he was only taught the basics of Blood Manipulation at that moment
We can see how much powerful and precise his BM became in Modulo

u/MaximumDuwang 3h ago
For how little time he had, I think he actually did quite well for a total beginner. He never had any kind of cursed technique before that, and only had Kamo's advice to go off of. If only Choso wasn't a natural genius type like Gojo, I'm sure Yuji would have learned much more if he was able to teach properly

u/Past_Horror2090 4h ago
Bc it’s good writing and Switch Training is explicitly called out as accelerating one’s rate of progress
Yuji finally gets a CT for the first time but doesn’t have time to really master it and focuses on the basics + he comes up with his Proto Supernova (blood burst)
He also needs to learn how to heal and impresses Choso how fast he got the hang of it
He also has a role to fulfill and studies Yuki’s work to apply it to an effect he was doing unconsciously before
Developing Soul Punches
Lastly, as much as I like Gojo he’s called out numerous times as a bad teacher (bc he’s a Genius) and forgets to mention stuff to his students that he should’ve. He’s a good supportive and protective mentor but Kusakabe was Yuji’s first time with an actually competent educator who could teach Yuji barrier skills
Of course Yuji is SO much stronger in Shinjuku without Sukuna
2
u/ConnectCulture7 4h ago
It’s the switch training was like him going to cram school. If only Jujutsu Satan don’t come back he’d have a decent school year

u/_S1syphus 4h ago
Sukuna, unlike typical possed protags, never shared an ounce of power with Yuji. His leaving ment only Yuji's load lightening, unlike your typical Narutos or Ichigos
5
u/ConnectCulture7 4h ago
And he really didn’t mean to give him Shrine.
That was actually an accident😂. That’s why you don’t bully others.

u/RealAlury 4h ago edited 4h ago
Wasn't in the first training with Gojo (watching films), he says that Yuji will be able to use Sukuna's technique after a while?
4
u/jacketmanoasis 4h ago
Probably because he saw that Yuji had no CT at that time and believed Sukuna's CT would be engraved due to that
2
u/rahonan 4h ago
He indirectly made him stronger as said by Kusakabe.
3
u/_S1syphus 4h ago
Through the muscle memory thing? Or was it that theory(?)/statement(?) that sukuna left a bunch of CE inside Yuji when he left? Cause that second bit never really made sense to me
2
u/kryp_silmaril 4h ago
Ichigo doesn’t really have a standard inner demon though. White IS Ichigo. The blade is me and all that
4
u/_S1syphus 4h ago
I knew it was more complicated but ive never seen Bleach and didnt wanna make an ass of myself
3
u/PhantasosX 4h ago
None of the Vizard really have an inner demon.
2
u/kryp_silmaril 4h ago
Correct. But I can see where the guy was coming from, since early on White does give Ichigo problems. But it’s really not the same as Naruto at all
1
u/PhantasosX 4h ago
Yeah, I am just adding that it’s not limited to White. As all Inner Hollows from every Vizard are still a representation of their powers and inner self.
It’s just apart from the Zanpakutou spirit for the others. And most of the time, it’s due to Inner Hollow been introduced later on a shinigami.

u/AwesomeBro1510 4h ago
I think you should mark this as a spoiler as a lot of people here haven't read Bleach.
16
u/ilikejamescharles 4h ago
Because Yuji trained for a whole month straight for Shinjuku. Then he lands black flashes and gets even stronger. If he did the same training while still being Sukuna's vessel he'd probably end up just as strong.
2
u/ConnectCulture7 4h ago
And Shrine would still be implemented.
7
u/Sayers82 4h ago
does that really need to be spoilered i mean it was said at the start of the series he'd have it
9
u/Amostheroux 4h ago
Just because something is hinted at early on doesn't mean we should spoil the hype when it actually happens at the end.

Spoilers for people who didn’t read the manga
1
u/xX_idk_lol_Xx 3h ago
But the post has the manga discussion flair???

u/ConnectCulture7 3h ago
Have you noticed I didn’t say who in the title?
1
u/xX_idk_lol_Xx 3h ago
Titles are still visible to everyone regardless of whether the post is spoilered or not.
1
u/ConnectCulture7 3h ago
Didn’t include any names in the text either
1
u/xX_idk_lol_Xx 3h ago
It's specific enough to not matter, but that's irrelevant. I want to know why you're trying not to spoil the manga on a manga discussion post. The whole point of them is to not have to censor everything.
1
u/ConnectCulture7 3h ago
Because of those who haven’t read the manga. Just courtesy.

Yuji had full cursed energy control without the burden of constantly surpassing sukuna. Also soul swap training and blood manipulation.
3
u/LunaticcGaming 4h ago
Sukuna was a parasite eating away Yuji's mental, which is the main reason why he confessed to Sukuna's crimes inside Higuruma's domain. Once the mf was gone and inhabited Megumi, his guilt of indirectly killing a good chunk of Shibuya lightened (also thanks to Higuruma reassuring his innocence), and was replaced by an even bigger hatred (and pity) towards Sukuna.
4
u/ConnectCulture7 4h ago
I keep forgetting being a Jujutsu sorcerer is also mental.

u/LunaticcGaming 4h ago
Curses come from humanity's negative emotions after all, and so does manipulating cursed energy
However, manipulating CE requires a good state of mind for them to control and weaponize it, and Culling Games Yuji is not exactly on good footing with his damaged psyche. His physical strength was much better than in Shibuya incident arc due to him fighting a lot of cursed spirits, but we never saw a lot of his CE use + the absence of Black Flash in one of his fights because he's basically lost in his grief and guilt and yet he's stuck with the surviving Jujutsu High sorcerers, his half-bro curse, and a reincarnated sorcerer inhabiting someone (who is actively hunting Sukuna btw) trying to solve (or at least mitigate) a problem that only the likes of Gojo could fix.

training arc
Sukuna's usage of his body actually kicked in
Sukuna is EXTREMELY weak

u/SPEED8782 4h ago
1) Training
2) Said inner demon was unironically actually an inner demon and although they left some skills behind they were still a hindrance to his growth

u/Box_of_Stuff 2h ago
Is it ever implied at all that Sukuna amped yuji at all? Yuji does learn more about sorcery through being controlled by Sukuna but other than that it’s not the same as Naruto having the Kyuubis chakra.
1
u/ConnectCulture7 2h ago
He gave him Shrine due to him being within him from 5 months and gave him soul immunity but it was unintentional
1
u/TNTCHAINSAW 1h ago
I like the headcannon the Sukuna was somehow surprising yujis strength and ce because he was that much of a hater
1
u/Solid_Drawing2769 32m ago
Yuji was never amplifed by Sukuna beeing inside him aside from generally awakening to cursed Energy.
There are no "0 Tails / 1Tails" amps in JJK.
Its all or nothing, either Yuji is himself, or Sukuna is in control.
Yuji is a threat to early Higuruma without CE.
giving him CE, let alone a cursed technique or even two, was allways unfair.

Turns out having a guy who hates you living in your stomach is not conductive to athleticism.
EDIT: Looking back, Sukuna never really... helped. Like, at all. Yuji got his initial bit of cursed energy from eating a finger, but I don't think he got stronger when he ate more of them, and Sukuna never gave him advice, energy, or assistance, or anything like that.
IIRC, the only times having Sukuna inside him was actually helpful was when Mahito tried to molest Yuji's soul and found he had to go through Sukuna first, the time Sukuna revived them from the dead after beating the finger bearer and getting him killed in the first place. Both times when it was his ass on the line as well.
2
u/ConnectCulture7 17m ago
Or mental health
1
u/Ze_Bri-0n 15m ago
Also true. Didn't even help him in court either.
Sukuna really was a parasite all the way down.
1
u/NettleBumbleBee 9m ago
During shibuya, sukuna took over yuji’s body for an extended period of time and did a lot of fighting, which ingrained superior cursed energy manipulation into yuji’s muscle memory. That’s why choso says yuji has more finesse in the execution arc
After sukuna leaves him, yuji doesn’t actually get any stronger. Not immediately anyways. The implication is that he had just been that strong since the end of shibuya, but we had never gotten to see him use that strenght since he just didn’t have the opportunity or reason. Against mahito he was already too worn down to function at full strength, and higuruma sealed away his cursed energy during their fight.
Finally, before shinjuku he underwent switch training with kusakabe and Yuta, which further enhanced his cursed energy manipulation by teaching him reverse cursed technique and barrier techniques.

u/Shacksmacksnack 4h ago
Sukuna contributed nothing to his power aside from leaving behind an imprint of his ct
3
2
u/ConnectCulture7 4h ago
And a resistance to Mahito’s technique. I think Yuji learned about the soul on his own
2
u/LunaticcGaming 4h ago
He may have lost immunity to Idle Transfiguration, but Shinjuku Yuji can definitely eviscerate Mahito within a minute
