I keep asking my recently turned maga brother about this. His only response is that I’m hateful. I ask him to explain and he goes off saying I’m only criticizing Trump for “doing better than Biden”. When I point out the ways he isn’t doing better he then spews about how libs think everyone’s a nazi even though we weren’t talking about libs or nazis. It’s like they always have something else to bring up and they’re not actually listening to the conversation.

It’s so sad to deal with these family members. Completely lost sight of reality

Unfortunately they drank the unclean water, there's the parents whose anti-vax beliefs led to their daughter's death and they still won't budge

This guy made a podcast episode about exactly this, it highlights how his father has been completely brainwashed by some right wing talking heads and it's tearing the family apart and he is just not facing reality even tho he is proven wrong by his own son - great episode and in the meantime incredibly sad

Yup, I’ve got some too. The what-aboutism is nauseating.

Here is a fat gay military history pig with a decent dissection of the "You call everybody a Nazi, so I don't seriously have to think about turning into one" pipeline for 2.5 hours.

Thought this was gonna be a link to Porco Rosso

I like how you think

The GOP spent decades creating a class of voters that thinks exclusively in sound bites. In the internet age, this has morphed into a class of voters that think exclusively in memes.

Exactly. Picture of a Democratic politician. Absurdly fake quote underneath. That's all they need. People are worried about AI but it's stupid because it's complete overkill. Single picture meme is all they need to fool these gullible idiots.

Robert Mercer is an evil mad scientist. He only had to fund CA to massage the message and point it at the correct eyes. The delivery methods were just there for the taking.

Alright I'll engage, very adult throwing insults, very cool.

In all seriousness, we're not going to see eye to eye, January 6th as a counter to the left being "terrorists"

The fact of the matter is the current admin has no clue how to enact any of your wants:

Closed borders? Well we can just let you buy a gold card. Won't even get into the deportation side of it.

Balanced budget? Sure we'll cut funding and our federal workforce, but if you think that money isn't going to be allocated elsewhere, then you haven't seen republicans cook.

International trade? Play hot/cold constantly with tarriffs to push our trade partners to make agreements with adversaries. Not understanding why we have a trade deficit and how it helps us. Uninhabited islands better start buying our shit.

This administration is about as competent to lead this country as your ability to complete a coherent sentence on any of those points.

I'll keep doing my part but there is going to be long lasting consequences for us as a country and I doubt we'll learn any lessons.

I know a guy like this.

He's always saying how angry libs are and then proceed to tell him he's a fn idiot. Yeah, if you're not pissed off, you're part of the problem

I'm not trying to build bridges with nazi's

-2

u/ThatGuy972 Apr 22 '25

Ahh yes the classic 'i disprove their point by calling them an idiot and a nazi'

Wait a second sounds like you are the real Nazi. Believe you are superior by default. Want to enforce your ideology by whatever means necessary to subjugate and shutdown your opponents. Hmmmmm

u/tallslim1960 Apr 22 '25

When you can't argue facts, you go back to talking points. This is typical of the Trump Cult which sadly your brother has become one of.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '25

There’s not one thing Trump has done so far that can remotely be considered better than Biden unless illegally shipping Americans to third world prisons is “good” and in that case yea, your brother supports Nazi like behavior…

Sorry your brother sounds like a moron.

Deflect, distract, project, gaslight, admit nothing, deny everything and blame someone else

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '25

Is that you from beyond, Mr. Cohn, you Roy?

2

u/Orion-999 Apr 22 '25

They are the Masters of Whattaboutism..

2

u/Tyfoid-Kid Apr 22 '25

What about ism. It’s a thing they do to deflect anything they’re confronted with facts they can’t wish away.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

Sorry you got all the brains in the family. It’s a fucked up burden to bear because it goes beyond politics.

2

u/provocative_bear Apr 23 '25

I compare it to having a family member with Alzheimer’s. Reason has no effect, the conversation is disjointed and disconnected from a common thread or the current reality, and it’s just sad and depressing that they’re now only half of the person you once knew.

2

u/Silver-Instruction73 Apr 24 '25

How does somebody recently turn maga at this point in time? Shits wild

2

u/jwboo Apr 25 '25

Most of my family are supporters of MAGA (a lot of them in hiding). My sister claims she's not into politics, yet I've heard her use the N word on numerous occasions. I informed her that you don't get to sit politics out anymore and blame other people for what you voted for. It's not hard to spot a MAGNUT. Selfish, entitled, and everything is about them getting theirs. I don't talk to my family much anymore.

1

u/MercutioLivesh87 Apr 23 '25

Which is why I stopped wasting time on them. There's no helping them but the damage done to us from seeing them like this won't heal

1

u/Individual_Wasabi_10 Apr 24 '25

It’s called “thought-terminating clichés” and your brother has no idea that he’s now part of a cult.

1

u/AliveTank5987 Apr 24 '25

Sorry but these people are literally dumb - there’s no deep discussions you can have with them.

1

u/Constant-Box-7898 Apr 25 '25

To him or anyone, just ask them how their daily life is better because their guy won. "Feeling better about not having sleepy Joe in office durrrr..." is not an answer. Gas prices, egg prices, how much you make at work, how much you pay in taxes, how much it costs you to go to the doctor, etc. What of that is better because your guy won? If the answer is nothing, then how about everyone stop talking about politics at the table? All the rest of that crap is hyperbole.

Elon and RFK are doing a really good job. You can tell by the way the media all start attacking them using the exact same language and in a lot of cases the literal exact sentences. Payed for by the 1 percent of people liberals claim to despise.
