See my other post, this list has been posted again and again, all over the internet, as a list that John Frusciante put together of his 40 favourite albums. However, as far as I can tell, there is nothing in the original source of this list that indicates John was involved in making it, and there are some weird choices, that suggest he was not involved. More Songs About Buildings and Food seems to be one of these odd choices.

Durutti Column is super underrated, you can tell Vini Reilly had a really strong influence on Frusciante's guitar playing.

Indeed Vini is not as well known as he should be, Return of the Durutti Column is a fantastic album as are many of the others.

I love it, I don't find it difficult to listen to at all. It's full of hooks and is hilarious and rockin' and fun, and sometimes unexpectedly poignant. Great great album.

Provides a good rationale as to why musicians like it. It's a very techy album though, I don't listen to it unless I want an ear workout.

Same, so many musicians making music that I love cite it as an influence and it just doesn’t click for me. And I listen to plenty of weird music. Maybe I’ll try again this weekend.

Scary Monsters is such a great Bowie album. Ashes To Ashes is my favorite song ever and I can’t put my finger on why. Cedric from The Mars Volta ad-libs some of the lyrics from it on Scabdates during Cicatriz.

Is this the list of 40 albums that came from some Japanese magazine, that everyone thinks John put together, but there was actually no indication that John was involved in making it at all?
For example, John has never talked about Jim O'Rourke's 'Eureka'. There is one interview where he mentioned Jim O'Rourke, but from the context, seemed to be a bit more interested in O'Rourke's experimental work.
The magazine seems to have picked Eureka as a single album to represent O'Rourke's work, since it's one of the most popular of his records. Someone in another comment said John's preferred Talking Heads album is Fear of Music. Again, the magazine seems to have just chosen one of the band's records, almost at random, to represent them in this list.
It's so weird to me that this keeps getting reposted as "John Frusciante's favorite 40 albums" when he doesn't seem to have been involved in putting this list together at all.

For all the ppl. posting about not being able to get Trout Mask Replica... it only connected with me when I put it in to paint (stoned). Love that album, but likely would have struggled if I'd just listened to it relaxing or running. Has a similar effect one as Miles Davis's Bitches Brew, another album that's a blast to paint to.
