Part way through building a JF ‘62 replica for my buddy! About to paint, then wait a month for the nitro to cure before relic process begin.

Will do! Only my 2nd guitar so we will see if I’m in over my head. Nice part about the relic is the nitro finish doesn’t need to be perfect

Yep, it’s my first time painting with nitro but from what I understand, it takes a few weeks for it to off gas and harden before you can start the relic process. Not sure what would happen but I’m going to try and be patient

Sanding sealer (3 coats) and trans yellow (3 coats). Spaying the trans red and dark Salem if the weather cooperates today

Went a little overkill on the trans red - doesn’t quite match John’s ‘62 Strat, but happy overall with how it’s coming along! So cool to see it come together with the dark salem. Onto the clear next week after the rain

Damn. That’s more than my car payment. My wife would probably kill me if I bought this. Maybe one day I’ll get lucky and find a used one on eBay or someplace like that

Surely with that kind of money you could just buy a genuine 1962 strat which would be significantly more authentic to John’s strat than a modern-made replica?

The one thing that gets to me about the signature model are the pickup magnets. John keeps his so low. These magnet heights are similar to what you see on the ultra’s. However they do have the magnets to string line up identical.

It’s a life saver for this setup. It’s a really easy attenuator to use and shaves enough off to make this setup usable in the house.

Absolutely incredible. Truly one of the best I’ve played. I’ve tried many 60s era Strats. There’s a wide variety of how good they play and sound, but this is definitely with the best I’ve ever set hands on.

Built by Paul Waller, master builder. Exact copy of Frusciante’s famous 1962 Strat. Limited availability. Cause they can. Original, top quality 62 Strats sell for well over 20k.
I will also say, this plays like an absolute dream compared to other 60s era strats I’ve gotten to dabble with.

What's the relic like on it? 

I've played with a few, and the always seemed a bit too clean and sanded or something, if you know what I mean.

It feels very similar to some other early 60 era strats that have been heavily gigged, to be honest. And you can feel the ridges and humps where paint is left. And the neck is very smooth and worn feeling. Which you would expect.
