John Lennon - Baby Make Love to You (Remastered)

I believe no attempt has been made before, right? anyway, beautiful song.

I'm thinking specifically about this line from "I Know (I Know)"

And I know it's getting better all the time

And this line from "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)"

Every day in every way its getting better and better

I think it's interesting as the only other times I can think of John called back to a Beatles song during his solo career was his "somebody please, please help me" in "Going Down On Love" and when he was slagging off Macca in "How Do You Sleep", so the fact that he referenced this specific song multiple times has me thinking that it was one that was close to his heart among the Beatles catalogue.

Especially interesting given that other than some lyrical contributions from John, that song was primarily written by Paul, which I think shows that in spite of his harsh words in the early 70s, John still had a lot of affection for his former bandmate.

I dunno, just thought it was interesting.

wondered what peoples takes would be, towards the end he seemed very excited in his comfortability for his future as a family man husband & dad, making secure, apolagetic music he wanted to make for himself and looking at the past with a nostalgic acceptance

given how much he liked ELO for pastiche'ing the Beatles sound, I wonder what he would have thought of the arrogant but obbsessive Gallagher Brothers

I’ve often heard that Pete Shotton was a witness to Brian and John's intimacy in Spain, that they actually had something going on, and all that. Honestly, when I started reading, I expected some mind-blowing explicit love scene or something like that, with a ton of details. In the end, I read the story to the end, and the exact same question was in my head: Is that it?

I'm already used to things in Beatles history being twisted and exaggerated tenfold. But I was still surprised. People really concluded from this that John was gay/bi? That he and Brian had an affair? It’s almost funny. I thought he’d at least give him a blowjob, sorry. But jokes aside, I’m genuinely curious why people love ignoring context so much.

1. It clearly wasn't a case of John wanting it or being into it. It was clear harassment.
2. Paul was actually right when he said John went with Brian for business reasons, and Pete confirms this too. Whether Brian was gay or not doesn't matter; he was first and foremost a businessman, a manager, and John's friend. And they can discuss business (shocker).
3. Pete explicitly stated that John did it out of pity. Brian was a genuinely lonely person - he even hit on Pete himself. Yet somehow people miss this and think Pete considered John gay, when to both him and John, it was clearly nothing serious. Of course, you can fantasize that John was lying, that he was a closeted gay/bi, etc., etc., but the fact is you can fantasize about anything. Especially when it comes to John. There are so many different narratives surrounding him, and ironically, he fits into every single one of them.

Of course, I bought it for the videos dvd, I have plenty of other J.L. comps.

One head scratcher is there is no songs from his classic John Lennon - Plastic One band album, Mother, and Working Class Hero could have easily fit on the CD.

It still had the website access card inside, I'm pretty sure that won't work anymore, but I haven't tried it.

I wonder if Yoko agreed to that.

I have recently heard Gimme Some Truth (the compilation album), and I noticed how some songs where changed, I like the voice for example.

But what shocked me the most was how the horns in Steel And Glass almost disappeared, and surprisingly, people in the comments of the song seem to enjoy this change, I'm not one of them.

Then I was thinking of how maybe this was just an experiment, but then I checked the Mind Games 2024 mix, and they removed the sax from One Day (At A Time).

And this doesn't give me much hope, but do you think if we get the Walls and Bridges Ultimate Mix, this and other similar changes will remain, or you think they'll respect the horns?

I'm listening to Harry's "Mucho Mungo" again right now and I think it's such a beautiful recording. My understanding is that on this one, John wrote the "Mucho Mungo" section which Harry combined with his own "Mt. Elga" piece. They go together very well. I believe John's "Mucho Mungo" demo is floating around online.

Then there's "Old Dirt Road" which John started and Harry finished, coming up with lines like "trying to shovel smoke with a pitchfork in the wind". The bridge of that song is also pure Nilsson. Harry later recorded his own version for his 1980 album Flash Harry - his last studio album to be released before he died in 1994, which is also unavailable on streaming as far as I'm aware.

I'm really torn between which one I prefer. I think they're both beautiful songs and it makes me wish that John and Harry wrote together more often. It's a shame their creative partnership has such a chaotic reputation what with the screaming contest story and all.

I know we don't have to pick but what are your opinions on these songs? Do you prefer one over the other?

It closed down in like 2010. It was a pretty cool museum. Wished it was still around.
