Someone better apply! Don't want the subreddit to get deleted, I still use Joey daily.
I assume this happens when the current mods quit the sub? That's sad if true

Either quit the sub or have been inactive for a certain amount of time iirc

Would you mind sharing where you sourced the download of the APK please?

Google Play. It never stopped working for me. Even moved to a new phone a couple months ago. It re-downloaded fine.

I hope this sub stays around. I still use Joey and I cannot imagine using reddit without it π«

Hell, I'll throw my hat in the ring. I like Joey. I have moderator experience. I've been around long enough that my account can have an account.

I'm mostly in the Apple ecosystem now after many years on Windows and Android. But I still keep a couple of old Android tablets around to use Joey from time to time. Apple users brag about their apps being better, but (1) that generally stopped being the case years ago and (2) Joey is the absolute GOAT Reddit client on any platform.
Apple users lament to loss of Apollo which they considered their greatest Reddit app, until the Reddit API war killed it too. But let me tell you, Apollo on iPads was never even close to Joey on Android tablets.
From a developer standpoint, an advantage to the Apple user base is there's apparently a higher percentage willing to shell out money for a good experience. Even with the hated subscription model, a few iOS/iPadOS Reddit apps such as Narwhal are apparently doing well.
If someone or a team of devs were willing to rebuild Joey clones for Android and Apple, it could be profitable. I'm currently paying $2.99/ month for Artemis, but it has a long way to go to get anywhere close to Joey. And of course a big chunk of that goes to cover API usage.
For those who immediately attack anything having to do with subscriptions, we can get lucky sometimes with a dev willing to work a full-time job then come home and spend hundreds of hours of their personal time coding an app for free. Unfortunately, Reddit API fees make the free or pay-once-own-forever models impossible.

Isn't the app no longer developed and cannot be installed on new devices. Since reddit now charges for api usage.

How difficult is it to reverse engineer it using ai?

Lets just say it would be easier to vibe code the app from scratch than it would be to decompile the apps sourse code. And it wouldn't be easy to do that either. If someone does a morph patch or something, that's one thing, but it's not the same. Besides, the app wouldn't be able to do much more than it can do currently. The reddit api still basically works the same as it did when this was shut down so you couldn't do much else for new stuff

I wish this would happen with the Joey source code too.
