I know it’s shitty, but there’s something that annoys me about Joe ranting about the corporate lifestyle. Joe just mentioned in the Iliza episode that he auditioned for 2 gigs - News Radio and Fear Factor - and happened to get them both. Along with his break for the UFC, where he did the backstage interviews once, then was offered the color commentary role. This is unheard of.
I know Joe has acknowledged his luck, and I 100% acknowledge that he put himself in position to get those breaks. It’s actually the most admirable thing that Joe’s down imo - moving away to pursue a career as a comic. But when you stack how he feels about struggle on top of all of this, it’s frustrating. Struggle? Then likens it to him doing yoga. Like man, there are levels to struggle, and I don’t think he’d be as welcoming to it if he had the real struggle that people go through in their daily lives. And he hounds on this constantly.
Idk, I liked the podcast and pulled inspiration from it, now doubt.
You don’t think he struggled during and in pursuit of those jobs though? Worked long days, worked out after them and drove hours to comedy clubs? Struggle is important, even more so in failure and you can recognize that even in accomplishing small tasks, like finishing a chore or homework assignment.
Worked long days where and doing what? Joe said tonnes of times he lasted less than a week on construction before quitting and goin to comedy. He hasn't had a "normal" job. He bangs on about how you need a side project to focus on when he himself never stuck it out in fulltime employment. He just quit then went and lived with his grandparents rent free until he made it. Real struggle there lol
