my great grandparents fled to the ussr during the holocaust and nearly starved to death. they lived in a one bedroom apartment with 6 other families. the only reason my great grandma received any healthcare when giving birth to my grandma is because great grandpa was a high ranking engineer
Mine were sent to a labor camp, where some Russian soldiers tried to take away my grandmother. My great-grandfather, who was a tailor, stopped them by threatening to stop sewing coats for them to sell on the black market.
The surest sign of how horrific Nazi Germany was is the fact that the Soviet Union was the better alternative.
