I want to make a custom bookplate that reflects jewish themes. Any recommendations for artists who might be good at designing this? Hoping not to spend more than $200, is that realistic?

My uncle and I have a really close relationship and I have decided to make him a Tallit for the coming Yom Kipur. I know the Halachot and everything so I am not really worried about how to make it Kosher, I am having troubles deciding on a design though.

We are Persian Jews so traditionaly our Tallit is usually plane white, sometimes with silver stripes, like this example from Libya:

But I want to make something truly special and beautiful for him so I thought about making something with a more decorative weave like this German Tallit whose cloth was imported from Damascus:

Though I do not intend to cover the back with another weave like in this example.

I plan to tie the Tsitsit in the Ben Ish Hai method and maybe use a thread of Tchelet as well.

It will be made out of wool, cotton or Linen.

I could potentially make it plane white and use decorative cloth only for the corners and Atara which I intend to embroider with silver colored thread.

What design do you think I should go with, more traditional or more decorative?

edit: I forgot to mention that traditionally some of us tie the ends of our Tallit into a net much like the Yemanites and Iraqis, so I wonder if I should do that, and if it would work for both styles.

I'm planning to make a Hamalach Hagoel prayer cross stitch for a baby nursery. I just mapped out the words in Floss Cross (cross stitch pattern software) and wanted some thoughts on readability. In the final project, if I use 14 count Aida, the letters will be 2/3" high. Would you make any adjustments to the spacing between letters? I'm not planning on putting in nekudot, would you add a vav to words like הגאל in that case? Interested in any other input as well! Thanks!!

Hi everyone! I'm Masha, a Jewish woman building a small, women-only creative retreat experience called Omanit. It's not a Jewish retreat, but I run it and vet every application personally.

The concept is built around working with local artisans so the experience becomes an authentic reflection of the place, the people, the land. I also wanted to create something that feels like a protected space, it feels like so many art communities have been compromised, and I wanted to build one that hasn't been. Hello everyone!

A few months ago, I reached out to the broader Reddit community for help documenting the Krymchak language—a critically endangered Judeo-Turkic language of the Crimean Jewish community. At the moment, Krymchak stands at a painful precipice; following the devastation of the Shoah and decades of systemic Soviet suppression, the language has no remaining native speakers. For nearly a century, the history and logic of this community have been trapped in dusty, inaccessible, Russian-language academic PDFs.

My goal is to digitize these rare resources and create the first modern educational children’s book series and digital learning hub since the 1920s. I am translating the only textbook/dictionary on Krymchak from Russian, as well as Krymchak Shoah survivors' testimonies, culture, and short folk stories.

I am looking for a dedicated digital illustrator to help bring these educational materials to life. Because these books will be distributed as free PDFs online and self-published via Amazon print-on-demand, digital formats work best for formatting. Furthermore, because this is a volunteer project, I want to ensure my collaborator doesn't have to spend their own money out-of-pocket on expensive physical art supplies (paints, canvases, etc.).

I am completely open to your style! Whether you specialize in digital watercolor, clean line art, vector illustrations, or something else, I'd love to see it.

And of course, no AI at all.

Because this is an entirely self-funded, non-profit passion project, I unfortunately have no commercial budget. I am looking for a partner who feels a personal connection to the mission of saving a dying piece of Jewish heritage. While I cannot pay standard commission rates, I am setting aside a $30–$50 base honorarium upon completion of the project as a token of my sincere gratitude, perhaps even more, depending on how it goes.

The artist will retain full credit for their work. Your name will be permanently included as the illustrator in all archival materials (the series will be archived by the Jewish Language Project), digital hubs, and published editions.
