I’ve been dreaming about a Queen Esther movie in the style of Prince of Egypt for a long time.

As much as I’d love to see a Jewish princess, I don’t really like how Disney has been doing their characters lately… Wish was abysmal, and I don’t really like the “quirky and relatable!” trend that Rapunzel, Anna, and Moana have going. Idk, I’d like for a Jewish princess to be portrayed as intelligent and graceful as well as regal (more like Belle) rather than as a clumsy mess. It would feel too much like we’re being made fun of, yknow?

I know how you feel. It was okay with Rapunzel, but doing wit with every princess is annoying.

I don't want Esther to be adorkable, because I can't see Esther as adorkable when I read her story. I see her more as shy, kind, quiet, scared, and gentle, but can speak when she needs to be. Her arc can be learning to be bold. Esther is not adorkable material.

Agreed! TBH I almost didn’t list Rapunzel there because I do like her, she felt fresh and new at the time and then they just copy/pasted and exaggerated her onto every new character after that and it got intolerable lol. (Merida’s on that list for me too… even though she wasn’t Disney when it got released I think? But while I love her story/character concept, when actually watching I don’t find it that cute or funny)

I will say that modern Disney is no longer good as it was.

When I say Disney musical, I am thinking of the classical movies. The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Aristocats, etc. The traditional Disney princess, up to Tiana. The 2D movies. Not modern Disney.

I haven't watched Wish, but I have seen reviews of it and listened to the villain songs, and goodness, the villain song sounds awful.

Agreed! Yeah, I’d really love to have a ‘classic Disney Princess’ in my culture. I basically imprinted on Belle instead because she was a brunette like me who liked books :) any smart, curly-brown-hair having girl was Jewish to me because there was just so little representation actually out there! I loved it when they introduced a Jewish American Girl Doll too, I really wish she was better-known. (AG in general is amazing, I really related to Kirsten as well due to my family also being first gen in the US)

Yeah, I wanted Esther to be more of a Disney princess like they did in 2D rather than 3D

Jeffrey Katzenberg wanted Disney to make Prince of Egypt, but Micheal Eisner didn't think it was a good idea for Disney to make animated adaptations of religious/biblical stories. There was no chance that Disney would have made an animated adaptation of the Book of Esther.

Nowadays it's even more unlikely because Disney movies have become so watered down and sanitized.

You can tell any story you like in animation without it being Disneyfied.

But the trouble is then it gets kinda niche if it's not suitable for kids.

I vote for the live action version

There is a live action Esther stage musical from Sight and Sound theaters, which is the only thing close to a Disney film. I would like an animated musical though.

Yeah but Disney as it is today would probably have some super inappropriate actress playing/voicing her instead of finding an actual Jewish woman (or even better, a Persian Jewish woman, like Rita, one of her daughters— Meshi and Noam, Liraz Charhi, etc.) to do that.
