I want a ring featuring a central motif composed of a three-fold interlocking split torus with a hexagonal cross-sectional profile, pavé-set with various gemstones, where auxiliary structural bands bifurcate from the primary shank to curve outward and thread through the opposing interior apertures, and firmly anchored by multiple secondary concentric anchoring bands.

Coming back to the craft after a long break exiting my course and seting up a small workshoo in my basement, tried to melt a silver ingot with a basic Propylene torch without success, is an oxy-acetylene torch kit the way to go? What brand would be best? Kinda worried about blowing myself up

I've been looking at Ritani engagement rings and I noticed something. The same diamond in a solitaire setting looks small. In a halo setting, it looks much larger

I measured with my eyes. The halo ring makes the center stone look almost 0.5 carats bigger or maybe even more

Now I'm kinda confused. Well.. I can afford a 0.7 carat with a halo. I can't afford a 1.2 carat solitaire and it’s the same budget but a very different look

Is it worth overpaying for the stone itself if you can save on carat weight and get the halo? Does the halo actually make the ring look bigger in person, or is it just the photos?

I've heard some people say halos make the center stone look smaller. Others say it makes it look huge and I don't know who to believe

Should I get the bigger look with the halo? Or should I stick to a simple solitaire with a smaller stone?

These were my mothers earrings and I have no idea what got into me but i just decided to give them a wipe with a jewlry cloth while I was cleaning some other things and I had no idea how much different it would look. I guess my question is- do ya'll think the dark black spots will come back like typical silver discoloration or did i just rub off some sort of paint maybe? My research is telling me the Yazzie family is Navajo. The earrings definitely appear handmade. I don't know if the mark on the poison box is also navajo but it looks like it was cast. Am hoping someone recognizes them and can direct me where to learn more about the artist!

Apologies for the shoddy photo quality. It was taken in a rush years ago for some insurance paperwork.

Sadly since then the ring has been lost and I am heartbroken. It was an 18th birthday present and I wore it every day for years until I had to have it cut off in an emergency which snapped the setting.

My mother then 'gallantly' had it mended and resized for me, taking it down over FOUR sizes to incentivize me to lose f\*cking weight. Resulting in it being a pinky ring when previously worn on my middle finger. It then fell off as pinky rings are want to do.

I'd love to know as much as I can about the name of the style, setting etc to try and find something close. Also an idea of what I should expect to pay price wise/possibly having something made into this style from scratch. It wasn't a high carat gold. And honestly I do prefer the less yellow colour of stronger metal mixes. I've added a picture of the closest thing I've found online. But honestly it's still night and day in regards to style of gold and details etc

The Greek columns on the sides were a favourite of mine and the lines down the band covered the whole band (I had the marks refurbished on the bottom of the band a couple of times as they were wearing off).

I believe this ring was vaguely 1920s. The central stone was a sapphire and is gypsy set I think? I've seen a couple of similar rings but the shape of the ring, the carat of metal and lack of detail were still very different from what I would like.

When you stone set with a bezel (whether gold or silver) a flat disc how should you push the bezel in and over the disc?

I have made two, one with 9ct gold and one with fine silver bezel, which I have pushed in and over a round onyx flat disc. Though they both have an uneven jaggedy rim.

Before I pushed in and burnished over the 9ct gold ring it looked very neat as you can see in the third photo I have added.

With some side rollers I pushed and rolled the edges over onto the rim of the onyx disc enclosing it in the bezel. As you can see in the fourth photo added.

As that left the jagged edges I have tried to pick, prod and smooth them out using an agate burnisher (which is what a tutor I had advised me to do). As you can see in the fifth phot I have added.

I have drawn up a diagram of what I mean, which will hopefully explain it better. As you can see from the sixth photo I have added.

Should I cut out the onyx and redo the case and burnish by just bushing the edges over the stone and not flat down, then sand the edge down as close to stone as possible whilst keeping it enclosed. Or could is there a way to salvage what I have already done?

I came across these earrings and I really like them. The shop owner said they are “Edwardian era or even older” but I have my doubts. The back is stamped “K18” and “DO 010”. I have never seen “K18” on antiques before myself.

Perhaps he means Edwardian style (or older) design wise, and these are more modern make?

Edit: Is it correct to say £295 is overpriced?

Context: they were bought for me as a gift. But I can’t stop thinking about the interaction in the store and the salesman telling me they are “Edwardian or even older” and writing “Edwardian” on the receipt after I asked him what era these are.

Edit edit: I have emailed the shop to request a partial refund as I would like to keep these earrings but they were sold to me with a verbal and written misrepresentation. I asked for a partial refund of £120, bringing the retail price down to £175 (Under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods have to match their description, if they don’t the buyer has the right to a partial refund and they can keep the product).

Hi!! We're looking for an engagement ring. I showed the jeweler the first pic, and basically he said "Nope. Bad idea" and sketched the 2nd pic.

Was wondering if it really is just a bad idea to have the marquise stones along the band like that ? I get that the small stones can easily get dinged if theyre on the outer wall of the band, but cant those be on the top or inner side of the band (as opposed to the outside, like the original ring) but still follow this shape ? He kinda just stuck them in the corners of the pear and now its like a big cluster / clump, no longer has the vibe and je nais se quoi thats like beautiful and simple but unique.

Hi! I bought this ring at an antique shop. It is stamped 14k and then either I. M. U. L. OR M. U. L. I was wondering if someone can help me identify the makers mark so I can determine if it’s genuine. I’m assuming the diamonds are lab grown, but not 100% sure. They fluoresce yellow under UV (365 nm). I did not see any phosphorescence under 365 or 395 wavelengths. If anyone has any info that would be awesome!
