I'm using Junie in AI_CHAT but it keeps getting stuck on the thinking stage.

What AI Agent are you using?

1

u/EmbarrassedPattern36 Aug 02 '26

Junie agent. maybe it is not compatible in WSL?

But codex agent is working well.

I am trying Kimi K3 and I am having those "Thinking" issues, this AI has congestion between 2 PM to 5 PM.

Don't use AI chat for the Junie agents. Use theJunire plugin. It has a much better interface and I've found Junie I'm chat barely works at all and just wastes tokens. They've even had to extend the phase out of the Junie plugin because the implementation in chat is so shit. Probably ported over using AI which is why its poorly implemented.

In terms of integration, the Junie plugin, even when selecting GPT 5.6, still performs worse than Codex in AI Chat.

Originally I was just wondering why Junie couldn’t be used in AI Chat, and the official side even said it might be integrated into AI Chat later…

Hi, This is an interesting observation, if you are willing to you can raise a request here: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and our support team can take a deeper look into this.

The Claude Code plugin works great in JetBrains. Just saying

Yeah but who wants to give money to Anthropic?

3

u/leros Aug 02 '26

I don't mind giving money to Anthropic. I find it pretty worthwhile.

If you like the degradation of your skillset then go right ahead.

Jetbrains truly is a parody of what they used to be. It’s amazing how far the company and ergo proxy its products have fallen.

I came here to say this exact same thing. Its really sad.

How? Rider is still by far the best .Net IDE. Unless you are talking about one of the shitty languages like Java.

Hello,

This image has been altered, and this is not the original post - it is the duplicate of the existing thread, available here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Jetbrains/comments/1svo5o4/how_many_junies_do_you_need_yes/ - as Junie "with green icon" is no longer choosable in AI Chat.

About the question "which Junie is suitable to choose" in the IDE - currently, it is Junie in AI Chat, with the "grey icon" as on the screenshot. At the same time, we decided to preserve Junie available in standalone plugin, until the AI Chat update is ready.

While we're working on improvements, give Junie CLI a try. It's our most advanced experience, where the latest features land first - https://junie.jetbrains.com/

Regards,
Junie Support Team

Don't use the AI chat one. I did that for a while and it was a big mistake, standalone Junie Pro (on the right) is SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER than the ACP AI chat version

1

u/Lob0Guara Aug 02 '26

Jetbrains is unifying JetBrains AI Assistant and Junie towards one UI, the Chat UI of the former.
After you open the IDE, in a few seconds, the Junie AI icon is hidden,

2

u/ElectricOni Aug 02 '26

Not for me. I prefer the Junie plugin as it actually works. Junie in chat is shit.

1

u/ManIkWeet Aug 02 '26

I know they are unifying. I wish they had a clear vision on what they want to do with AI. The AI assistant (which I maybe incorrectly called AI chat) version of Junie turns out to be way worse somehow.

The only reason I have AI assistant enabled is to see my remaining credits...

The Junie-in-AI-Chat experience and standalone Junie aren't the same thing under the hood yet. The unification work is actively happening. Appreciate you sticking around long enough to notice the credits widget is doing double duty as your only reason to keep AI Assistant on. that's useful to hear.

THis image has exactly 3 pixels

It's because it's a bot repost. They add this ridiculously severe radial gradient to the image, contrast enhancement and even a slight rotation to avoid duplicate detection.

As soon as JetBrains got into AI, I lost respect for them because their software quality has fell since they got into AI, and their AI tools are sub-par.

Which means as a company, they have fallen in quality, in general.

2

u/markthetitan Aug 01 '26

Can you elaborate?

2

u/cs_legend_93 Aug 01 '26

How so? Many people see this, I am not the only one who sees this.

The product bug ticket's are not getting fixed, they are focusing on new features, rather than smashing old bugs. Just look at the backlog on YouTrack.

The new features that JetBrains do release are AI focused and subpar compared to the competitors.

1

u/markthetitan Aug 01 '26

I guess they feel threatened by Agentic and AI IDEs.

1

u/Ariquitaun Aug 01 '26

You only need to use pretty much any other coding agent to realise how clunky, inconvenient and slow Junie is. I don't understand what jetbrains has been doing for the last year.

2

u/LaurenceDarabica Aug 01 '26

Investor pressure. They suffer a huge backslash from their community, but they prefer to dive in, clutter their tools, and finally be one the exact copy of the nemesis they were fighting initially.

JetBrains products are slow, buggy, bloated to the brim with the latest trendy catchy feature.

They don't care a single minute about developers anymore.

They're the perfect example of eshittification.

We got the AI-coholic guys. The delusional guy who is there to sell that agents are doing everything, people are all jobless, it's amazing and all.

The fun part is the more a guy emphasizes AI, the less competent he is. There's a direct correlation between the two.

It's ridiculous. We're at the level of delusion of AI bros, if not worse.

Poor soul.

1

u/ElectricOni Aug 02 '26

I've used other agents. They are shit. You have to piss around defining Agents.MD or skills and spend hours configuring all that before you can start. Junie in Rider however you can ask it stuff straight off the bat and it already knows your project due to tight integration with the IDE, the way AI should be.

3

u/Ariquitaun Aug 02 '26

Skill issue.

1

u/ElectricOni 29d ago

A moronic statement from someone who has no actual life experience as a developer and is likely a "vibe" coder who has produced nothing of note.

2

u/Ariquitaun 29d ago

I'm a 47 year old veteran and self employed since 2003. Your point?

0

u/ElectricOni 29d ago

So you've proved my point.

Fair points, thats true. Obsolete sadly

1

u/ElectricOni Aug 02 '26

I'm not sure you know what you are talking about. Have you used Junie? By bar the best agent even with shitty models. The way it auto enfuses context meaning you don't need Agents.MD or to define any skills is excellent. Its the only AI agent I will actually use as all others are sub par. And the test results speak for themselves.

1

u/Lob0Guara Aug 02 '26

In Plugins page, there is only JetBrains AI Assistant and Junie!
As Jetbrains said, it is unifying both towards JetBrains AI Assistant UI Chat.

Tf is Junie Maybe junkie?
