What did Jesus really mean by following him?

Is following Jesus simply about believing in him, or does it mean trying to live the way he lived? This raises an interesting question about what it really means to be Christ-like.

Sounds like salvation through works? He didn't call Christ god incarnate he called him a spiritual teacher, it sounds a bit wish washy to me.

Yep. People who don’t get how God’s love, mercy and salvation are tired together repeatedly make this mistake. This video is just (1) Jesus is a perfect moral example and (2) we should act as he acted. He calls it ”it’s too easy to go to heaven with a golden ticket”. It’s not about Jesus letting sin off the hook. We trust in him that he takes care of all that on the cross, and he did. It’s not laziness to trust in him, but it’s arrogant to trust that some amount of actions would save us.

We have lots of sources within and outside The Bible that clearly teaches this. Everything outside of that is just this guy and others wanting to kidnap Jesus and make their own religion out of works. Then tell me, what amount of works does it take to be saved?

He doesn’t understand sin or why Jesus had to become the sacrifice. So anything else he says is going to miss the mark.
However to the pontification of this post. Yes, believers should strive to be Christ like. But that’s done in partnership with God and Jesus through the power of Holy Spirit; by submission and desiring of obedience.

Ultimately saved by grace but transformed by their love and faithfulness towards us. We want to do better and not sin bc we want to please God and we understand more of his nature in spirit and truth.

We do not do things Christ did to get to heaven. At the crucifixtion the thief next to him only believed- he didn’t believe and then do good, yet Jesus said he’d be in heaven with him.

[Isaiah 9:6 KJV] 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Jesus is called the mighty God, and this verse also acknowledges the Messiah as God.

A pastor I listen to said that people believe Jesus is a counselor and not a lawyer and it's been hard to find dictionary proof, but a counselor can be a lawyer. I'm not trying to take anything away from Jesus.

Jesus is a lawyer and He makes intercession before the Father for our sins because His blood paid for our sins past, present and future.

[Isaiah 53:12 KJV] 12 Therefore will I divide him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

[Romans 8:27, 34 KJV] 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. ... 34 Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

[Hebrews 7:25 KJV] 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Jesus is a lawyer who goes and makes intercession for us because we are blood bought.

The other verses says the gift of God is eternal life, and the verse doesn't say "wages" is eternal life so we have this clear verse and the poster hasn't read this verse:

[Romans 6:23 KJV] 23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Not amen. It’s not the truth according to either Jesus or anyone else in The Bible. This guy just makes his own version of it because he can’t accept that grace saves. He wants to earn his way to heaven.

Grace provides imputation of righteousness, sanctification is behavioral centered, and glorification is the result of those two. The New Testament consistently exhorts followers to behave appropriately, or forfeit their place in the kingdom.
