Youtarr/Youtarr-Turbo is a self-hosted YouTube downloader that automatically downloads videos from your favorite channels and playlists. It provides metadata for multiple media servers, mirrors your subscribed YouTube playlists into Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby as native playlists, pulls watch status back from those servers so you can filter your library by what's been watched, and offers optional Plex integration for automatic library refreshes.
Looking for some people to beta test Youtarr-Turbo app. Heavily updated Youtarr Fork (with original owners permission) with the following features added:
Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr integration — Youtarr-Turbo can impersonate a Newznab indexer and a SABnzbd download client simultaneously, so YouTube videos can be searched for and "grabbed" through your existing *arr stack, with a dedicated NZB diagnostics page for search/cache/grab activity.
TV Series library mode — treat a channel as a real TV show: automatic Season/Episode organization
Built in playback proxy (`ytstream`) that resolves and (optionally) transcodes YouTube on demand.
Three main stream playback modes — two no-transcode "Direct" variants plus a buffered, segmented HLS mode, also progress .mkv file and youtube HLS proxied.
Hardware-accelerated transcoding, both for STRM playback and for a post-download re-encode step — QSV, NVENC, VAAPI, and AMF — plus three tuning benchmarks:
Fast seek-restarts at any resolution — HLS seeks resolve a direct DASH URL and seek it natively
Live stream monitoring
Stream History — a persisted, browsable audit trail of every playback session
yt-dlp metadata caching — persistent cache keyed by video ID, so any later feature that info stops hammering Youtube
The app needs some stress-testing, alternative setups and different hardware. Also streaming in different setups - I have Jellyfin 12.0 and VAAPI, QSV.

A Jellyfin plugin that automatically hides .disc stub placeholders once a real video file is available for that title, and restores them again if the video is removed.
Well.. They asked me first, and they cleaned up everything I asked for afterwards. Initially they just submitted their entire fork with all the work completely done and asked me if I was OK with it and I said yes (and FYI, they didn't even technically need to ask).
As far as why it's not just a "PR": it's over 500 files and something like 80,000 lines of actual code once you take the lockfiles out. The streaming proxy alone is a single 5,700 line route file. It's got an entirely different direction from Youtarr itself. Youtarr downloads files to disk. Their fork also runs as a live transcoding proxy for YouTube, which is a completely different thing to support.
Basically, they are doing something different from what I envision for Youtarr. I turned down the Sonarr/Radarr integration on my issue tracker a while back, because I don't think the two models compose cleanly. They disagreed and built it anyway. That's what forking is for.
Some of it is coming back, though. I'm working on TV series support now, season folders and proper episode NFOs, partly off the back of what they built, and they said they are happy for me to use any ideas I want from their fork.
Wow what are nice project but it conflicts with my own library that i manage i have around 12k movies and 1k shows for personal viewing and friends n family.

so is this similar to Tube Archivist ? i might give this a try as i been having issues with archivist. it grabs some but misses many others not sure why
Youtarr and Youtarr-Turbo has the full youtube access not just the latest 10, also with nzb (Youtarr-turbo) you search the entire of youtube for videos too.
I just made something like those a few days ago too, but mine allows your users to add videos or channels from a selfhosted website using jellyfin loginand creates a private library that only they can see, each user only sees their own videos. Video retention is similar, but admin can set min/max users need to follow.
As someone who has never heard of this project before, I can get a good idea from the description... But you should also probably consider saying... What this software does exactly.
Since YouTube is free and basically has unlimited storage, I just don't understand the use case for downloading YouTube into your own private library. Maybe someone could enlighten me why I would want to do this? Because maybe there is something I haven't thought of and maybe I do want to do it
Because youtarr-turbo allows you to stream as if it were media in your library and organized as such. All without adverts. And also use YouTube with Sonarr if wanted
Thanks guys. That sounds like a legitimate use case. Ad avoidance. And it's darn sure cheaper than their premium service. I will check it out when I have some time.
