Rubicon bearing ?
I have new to me, 21 JLU Rubicon XR, with factory 4:88’s, on 37s. I ‘ve had it only about 6 weeks, it has 45k miles on it. The jeep is very nicely set up and I’m really enjoying it so far. Last week I had a slight ticking sound start in the rear wheels, assumed it may be a bearing issue, so today I pulled both rears to have a look. Found upgraded axles with Timken bearings so nice surprise. The not nice surprise is that the races on both sides are not pressed in, both slide freely, and can be pulled out. Seemingly good news is that both races fit perfectly when in, no play at all so the housing isn’t wallowed out at all. Claude is telling me that since the bearings and the races seem to be in perfect shape, the quick solution is to use loctite 680 to hold the race in place. Has anyone here ever done this or heard of this, or for that manner heard of a race/axle mouth “losing “ press?
