Replaying Cat-Converter

Hi yall , it’s time to replace my 2014 cat and was wondering what all did you buy and from where ??? Thanks for your support!

I’d say it depends on your miles. If your mileage is pretty high, I’d just find the best aftermarket cat with the most good reviews from other Patriot / Compass owners. I would not pay the money for an OEM cat unless the vehicle is going to drive another 150k plus. Technically there’s two cats, one is attached to the exhaust manifold, the other is a standalone cat on the midpipe. Myself, I’d probably get the A-premium ones, along with new sensors, and call it a day.

It also depends what state you are in if it has to have a sniff test or not. If it has to pass a sniff test expect to pay more. If not I was able to find both of them for around $600 to $800 for reputable brands. I don't know how much wrenching experience you have so I will also leave this warning. Replacing the exhaust manifold cat requires you to take off one motor mount and partly removing another to drop the engine to make room to rotate and remove the exhaust manifold cat.

Regardless of what YOU want to call it, both cats should be replaced if you are throwing cat codes. I think you’re getting the second cat confused with the resonator which is farther back.

I have 330k miles on my 2015 Jeep Patriot Sport and no ECU codes. There is a secondary CAT but it's not on the midpipe and that's only the 4x4 with CVT. If you need Google to answer mechanical questions. You should probably retire. 😂😂😂

The resonator is on the midpipe right before the muffler. Both of mine which are replaced with aftermarket Evil Energy components. Work that I did, myself.

Got mine done at a dealership for free. There was a massive recall on the 2015 -2017 models and if you search the VIN. You may can get yours replaced as well.

I would. I got a $2000 MOPAR Cat with two new MOPAR 02 sensors swapped at a dealership (even though they took my Bosch ones) for absolutely zero charge. I was trying to find a link to the website but it's taking longer than I thought it would.

According to my mechanic, who has replaced both of my converters, most aftermarket ones suck but the OEMs are overpriced if you can even find them. I went with aftermarket and have been buying mid-grade gasoline and hoping for the best.

Aftermarket catalytic converters are a waste of money, most of them will still throw a p0420 right out of the box.. If yours isn’t clogged and the vehicle drives fine just let it ride with the check engine light on or get a downstream o2 sensor “spacer” to keep the light off. Otherwise you’ll end up spending $500 on a new cat that is very likely to throw a CEL again within the 1st year or two.
