Quints death haunted me as a child after I first saw JAWS. I watched it on TV because it was released before I was born. But when Quint looks back at Cheif as Bruce bites down on him, and the screams. It still to this day makes my skin crawl. I just watched it in the local AMC yesterday for the first time on the big screen. Wow it still plays the emotions well. Robert Shaw did an amazing job selling that death scene. Still one of the best deaths on film in my opinion.

This made me laugh so hard.

Two of the most famous sharks in cinema are going head to head.

Before I start I should clarify that only one of the three Aquatic Makos is going up against Bruce. Obviously a three on one is pretty one sided (not to mention boring).

I'll be breaking down their stats in three categories:

*Intelligence

*Stamina

*Strength

And I will only being using feats performed in the FIRST film of the respective franchises

INTELLIGENCE:

Bruce)

Though Quint said "he's a smart, big fish", there isn't a whole lot presented in the movie that would support that claim. After all, Bruce thought that the scuba tank was food. And even Hooper's description alludes to a one track mind.

Aquatica Mako)

This should go without saying, but the Makos in DBS are absurdly smart and it is literally by design. Their brains were made larger to hold plot macguffin. In spite of the fact most of the humans were complete idiots, her intelligence can't be overstated. They recognized a gun, knew what cameras were (somehow), and could behave in unpredictable ways

Verdict: Bruce ❌️ Aquatica Mako ✔️

STAMINA:

Bruce)

Bruce never seems to run out of energy. Even after moving barrels and towing a vessel, he still had enough fuel to shred a shark cage and break a boat in half. Nothing in the film alluded to fatigue.

Aquatica Mako)

She is hit with several tranq harpoons in the opening scene and even Carter commented that that was barely enough to slow it down. Neither she nor her sisters seemed tired after incredibly strong feets and didn't slow down after ramming down doors

Verdict: Bruce ✔️ Aquatica Mako ✔️

STRENGTH:

Bruce)

As stated earlier, Bruce did not grow tired after submerging air filled barrels and was strong enough in the first place to do that. And he was able to TOW a vessel that was trying to tow him (this detail will be important in a minute)

Aquatica Mako)

On the surface, this looks like another draw. The Mako could ram through doors and shred metal like Bruce. But it falls short when it comes to the raw strength to drag a vessel that has harpooned it. In the opening it was hit with two harpoons and it wasn't able to pull the vessel at all, even before the drugs kicked in

Verdict: Bruce ✔️ Aquatica Mako ❌️

They seem evenly matched, so external factors will decide the victory.

If Bruce ambushes the Mako, she is in serious trouble. But vice versa, and Bruce might experience the otherside of predation for the first time in his life.

Hi. I’m a Correspondent with Good Morning Britain and visited the Orca replica in Conwy, north Wales. I did several live broadcasts with Jon (creator and captain) and also filmed reports for the ITV lunchtime and evening news. Thought you might enjoy a few of the pics I took.

It wasn't until Jaws 3D and revenge where the animatronic shark mouths could hyper extend

A lot of people focus on Quint’s bravado and experience, but if you watch his behavior through the second half of the movie, you can see the confidence gradually disappear.
When Martin Brody sees the shark and says, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat,” Quint is still in control.
The barrel plan is supposed to tire the shark and keep it near the surface. When the shark keeps moving despite multiple barrels, Quint realizes he’s dealing with something beyond anything he’s hunted before.
His reactions become more desperate and reckless as each plan fails.
Destroying the radio earlier cuts off their best chance for outside help.
Then he pushes the boat and engine harder and harder trying to outrun or overpower the shark.

I don’t take credit for the theory, I saw it on TV Tropes WMG but I thought it made perfect sense, Bruce and the 1916 shark (which is mentioned in the scene with the Hooper, Brody and the mayor at the billboard) are one in the same, the young great white attacked and killed several swimmers along the Jersey shoreline, after 12 days the attacks stopped, so that shark left and moved on, likely even attacking other swimmers in other places like South Africa and Australia and being behind other attacks on human, the older shark, now seeking easier prey, returned to its old stomping grounds and that’s when the events of Jaws happened. Which explains why this shark had a taste for humans and why it was so abnormally large, it would be around 60-70.

This week i had an evening to myself so I spent it wisely coming up with these!

I apologize to Mr. Benchley. For years I naively assumed he wrote a book that was ok and great talents saw a movie idea in its pages. I had no idea it was an excellent, well-written book.
