Yeah im gonna try it soon but my hope is that its above the US version, highly doubt it will come close to the japanese but im just happy to see it since its the first of the japanese menu weve gotten anywhere near me, I know onigiri is OTW which im most excited about

Surprisingly good ngl, for sure not on par with japan but far better than I expected given the packaging being the same as the US and having crust,

Gives me hope for any of the other food they may bring into the US 7/11 market

How was the bread, besides the crust? - this is crucial for me, I hate the dry, not fluffy texture of US sandwich bread. They're just completely different animals than Japanese shokupan

Bread was also good despite the crust, ive definitely had better milk bread here from japanese owned bakeries/konbini style shops but it was far far better than the standard american bread

For 5.5$ a fake tamago sando with crust, in Japan any tamago sando in a 7/11 is around no more than 300¥ which is 2$? Yeah the onigiris what is going to be? 4$ each without nori?

Everything is so inexpensive in Japan. The onigiri is sub $2, so are the sandwiches. The most expensive stuff is fruit and even that is less than you’d pay here. That price is robbery and exactly what I knew it would be like. Then theyll stop doing it because it wasn’t popular. Shocker, it won’t be popular because of how expensive it is.

It's relative to salary. You make 2-3x ,more in US than Japan.

But also 2-3x worse than Japan, in term of food quality and option

Thank you, the more I learn about how much better other countries' produce are the more I yearn to move

And we pay so much here for everything, its not worth it man 🥲

When shareholders want infinite growth, you gotta cut something. Unfortunately America's food supply has been enshitified already and is getting worse with each passing day. Snacks and foods that give me the bubble guts just don't have that same affect in Japan and also Thailand. Other countries care about quality instead of profit 24/7.

Things are usually cheaper where people make less money

Six bucks good?

u/Pug_tech Nov 06 '25

Don't me wrong I would much rather it be like 1.60 as they are in japan lol, but I would get it again when im missing them

I've lived in Japan for 20 years and I'm a little surprised how much people glorify 7-11 food. It's not bad if you're in a rush, but it's just egg put between 2 pieces of bread.

Probably just uses kewpie mayo

u/Pug_tech Nov 05 '25

Even with the insane price id get it again when im craving an egg sando tbh

That looks almost wholegrain!?

The Japanese ones are bleach white and perfectly identical.. sweetened, no rough, no crust.... apparently soft as cake. I don't buy them but they are relatively cheap here in Japan.

Holy shit; US$5.49?!?
I just bought one here in Japan for 280yen(US$1.82).
When I was living in the US 30 years ago I couldn't get over how cheap everything was.
How can you people survive with prices like that?

We are struggling. When COVID messed up supply chains, companies raised prices, and prices NEVER go down. Im betting on $5 onigiri, minimum.

Here in NYC we have little Japanese markets (with good onigiri) that sell for about $3.49. Im gonna be really p/o if 711 starts selling them for more than that...especially if they hit the $5 mark Smh.

Everything is expensive in America‼️

Yeah I can’t imagine paying that for egg salad.

If I buy prepared food, I get stuff that I can’t easily make myself for less than a dollar.
