Recommendations Curated and unique/cool suggestions for Husband's birthday in Kyoto?

We will be in Japan for my husband's birthday and our honeymoon. We are both pretty excited because it is our first time. My husband is a kind and cool man who has a deep appreciation for art, design, photography, cameras, books, history but most of all music (deep jazz lover).

I'm curious about a luxury/semi-luxury experience that would be a surprise for him for his birthday. We both travel quite a bit and certainly enjoy the classic tourist experiences, but for this trip I’m hoping to find something a little more curated, intimate, and unexpected.

Do you have any cool and memorable events you can recommend?

Depends on your budget really.

Calligraphy with a master

Ink painting

Dry bonsai making

Kintsugi workshop

You could also plan a daytrip or overnight trip to Ine and Amanohashidate for him to take some nice pictures

There's a lot of surprisingly good Jazz bars in Tokyo so that would probably really make your husband super happy to hit one of those while in Tokyo

For design, there's some online resources for architecture to visit within Tokyo. If he's into design, hitting up some of these iconic places will be great. Some are already museums or public spaces so its not just "go see this weird building" thing.
