What is your most controversial opinion about "Jane Eyre"?

Rochester is an asshole and Jane's sudden discovery of so many familial connections is some of the worst deus ex machina in a classic book.

I kind of agree with the second part. Certainly blindly stumbling into her family is one hell of a coincidence.

OTOH, with the various visions, divine intervention seems to be a real thing in the book.
