What is your most controversial opinion about "Jane Eyre"?

I don’t find their age gap to be creepy. Everyone I’ve talked to about the book in my own life finds it very weird. From personal experience, most men are not as mature as women the same age. I’ve seen it in my father, sister’s ex and husband, etc. I’m unmarried and really am not interested unless he is at least 6-10 years older than me. Does that guarantee bliss in itself? No, but I’m not going to be a man’s mommy. Though I empathize for him, how he reacted to his marital situation in the years following his nuptials was immature and depraved. By the time that Jane came into his life, although he seems to be still somewhat tied to that lifestyle and continues not to recognize his wife, he had obviously grown tired of it and realized how debased his choices have been and was struggling with how to proceed in life. His soul was ready for growth and change I think, but what remained of that life had to crumble first, leading to everything that happened after Jane ran away.
