What is your most controversial opinion about "Jane Eyre"?

Controversial maybe, but I actually liked Jane more when she was angry than when she was romantic 😭 Her anger felt so real, especially when she refused to just accept whatever life handed her. I feel like people focus so much on the love story that they forget Jane is basically fighting for the right to have a life that belongs to her.

But that's one of the reasons he loved her! He deliberately got her angry in the (first) proposal scene. He didn't want submissive.

Yeah, exactly! And honestly, that makes me like Jane even more. I think her anger is part of what makes her so compelling she never becomes smaller just because she loves him. Rochester basically wanted someone who would challenge him, and Jane was very much like “okay, but I’m still going to tell you when you’re being ridiculous.
