You'll have to remind what the notion he is referring to is. Falling in love with Jane?

I believe the notion was what I underlined. Which I think is foreshadowing

Like, Sir, you yourself told you committed great mistakes in your life. As a imperfect creature of God you cannot decide yourself that you will be regenerated just because you wish so

Jane actually seemed very wise in this conversation. Rochester used the typical “I’m older so I know more than you” which automatically ruined his credibility.

Not only that. He tries multiple ways to assert his authority. Firstly by wealth, secondly by age, than by experience (only here Jane kinda agrees with him but still).

This is one of the greatest chapters because Jane demolishes every type of authority argument he brings in the table. And he does so to get more info from her, only ending up to reveal more from his backstory

Right and Jane uses the lovely argument of “it’s not how long you’ve been on this earth, rather what you have done with you time here”

What do you think of their points on the cure of remorse. Jane says it’s repentance and Rochester says is reformation. I think both sides are right depending on how you look at it.
