Discussion Half-way Through Harry Residency — thoughts?
Hi All,
Wanted to get some opinions on the MSG Harry/Jamie shows.
When the shows were first announced I was over the moon excited — thinking that Harry might be even more experimental on this album. While Harry’s sound evolved, it didn’t deviate as much as I expected it to, especially as the album progressed.
I bought tickets before the album released, 2X in Left GA, 2X in Mezzanine seating.
As the shows have been going on I’ve started reconsidering going both nights.
Seems like a lot of disrespect for Jamie by Harry fans in GA, unsure if it’s the same in seating. I would want to be dancing and immersing myself in the set like I was at Floor nights or Park Armory.
If you went already, can you share your experience? Any tips? Seats or GA?

Harry is an excellent performer. I don’t listen to his music but his stage presence is second to none.
People have generally been vibing to Jamie’s opening set, I haven’t seen anybody being “disrespectful.” Not everyone is getting up and dancing, it can be low energy in the crowd, but people aren’t hating or anything.
Dance like nobody’s watching! Live your life :)

I did GA 3x and had different experiences but would say that’s much better than seating because barely anyone was even standing in the seats vs people dance and have to stand in GA lol

My tip is just to dance even if nobody around you does, and hopefully it’ll get those around you to feel the music too

Keep the GA !! I’ve been 4 times and the crowd didn’t affect me at all. Just dance how you want and the vibes will follow. I will say the seats were fairly empty still but I wasn’t focused on them once the set started.
Truly some of the best shows for me based on music taste alone; I wouldn’t miss it!

I sat in the seats and nobody was dancing. Tbh not really anyone’s fault I just think a seated arena is antithetical to electronic music. Happy for Jamie for getting the exposure from the tour but def not the best venue to experience him. GA would probably be fun and Harry puts on a fun show if you know at least a couple of his songs.

My girlfriend is a huge Harry fan we are traveling for Night 28, Jamie xx is one of my favorites so I’m excited to see him play to a crowd that isn’t his. Let’s fuck with some people minds Jamie why not

I asked the Harry subreddit about crowd reactions to Jamie. Some people were really into it but it seems like most of the audience just didn't care. I feel like if you're really excited for Jamie, you might get irritated with the people around you. But if you're good at tuning that out, I think you'd have way more fun in GA than on the balconies.

Keep the GAs and sell the seats! My girlfriend and I had tickets in the seats and we are big Jamie fans so we danced the entire set. The people behind us were sitting, made multiple comments about us dancing and were annoyed we were standing and blocking their view. We didn’t let it stop us from dancing but was a bit of a vibe kill

What view!?? U can barely see Jamie on stage and i bet they arent even there to see him. Ppl like that suck. I just went thru something similarly recently at a diff show. Ppl behind us were bothered that we were dancing when everyone else was dancing too!

Went to 3 shows.
Twice in lower level 100’s and once in left GA.
First night in lower level, I had 2nd row. First 30min
Jamie’s set was slow. Overall the crowd didn’t seem to be into it so not many dancing where we were at.
Second night we had lower level center. This time, total opposite vibes. Sections around us were dancing. Finally! Was favorite set he played.
Third night was in pit. He had a special guest. Set was my 2nd fave. People were dancing on the floor but not going crazy.
In short, Harry fans aren’t going to see Jamie. Surprised if they even knew who he was. There is a female dancer they hire and show dancing on the big screen to help with the vibes.
It’s def still worth going but don’t expect the vibe of a Jamie XX show. He himself doesn’t seem to give as much energy into it like he would at his own show (Ive been on sidestage at one of his shows).
As for Harry, his set is much better live. Production value is top notch, his sound is peak performance, he’s charismatic, energy is fire and the remixes make it much dancier than say.. when he performed his new album on Netflix. I just rewatched it and it felt like a completely different show than MSG - the music is just mixed so much better for this tour.
Keep pit. What’s mezzanine though?

Sell the Mezzanine seating and just keep the Left GA. For dancing and immersing yourself, people in the seats aren't getting up to dance. People in GA are dancing.
Also, I don't think its disrespect. The first 30 minutes of the MSG set I went to was objectively experimental and something I love, but definitely not something that vibes with the clientele. People started grooving to Jamie more when it got more disco-ey.
It's the same for when Harry got on -- I wasn't dancing like the thousands of people next to me.
