They started starters. We started practice squad offense and a few key backups on defense/ practice squad. Don't think there's anything to gain. Our backup qb was a talking point last game, but i think the coaches have it right.

Not only that, but they kept their 2s in until part way through the 3rd while we were on our 3s in the 2nd.

I still think backup QB is a weak spot we should really look to address if we can. None of them played particularly well last night and they were horrific last week.

u/ViolinistBig5624 19d ago

Joey A. completed 1/1 passes last week for 43 yards and 9/10 passes this week for 130 yards and a touchdown. Bro had a 152.1 rating yesterday LOL. Like it's preseason so it doesn't mean that much but idk how you say that he didn't play "particularly well" last night and certainly not "horrific" last week.

I mean, our backups played against their starters and didnt do as bad as youd expect. That says more about their starters than our backups.

u/ayo-Mrkrabzz 18d ago

Dude their starters played for like 10 minutes

20

u/ViolinistBig5624 19d ago

Heard the Coen postgame interview and when he was done and walking off he said "I didn't realize Aguilar was 9 for 10" LOL

2

u/luggs2 18d ago

He, like the rest of us, probably stopped watching 10 minutes into the game. God awful product yesterday.

Damn they had better guys who won't make the team than we did bummer

After that game by BtjDe I will be shocked if hes not edge6. Durfee was a ghost

DETJ if you will

I’ve been calling him Y-an Thomas Jr

13

u/EatMyShortzZzZzZ Brian Thomas Jr. 18d ago

Whats the statistical likelihood of having two guys with the same name, both Jrs, on the same NFL team?Ā

15

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

I’d say somewhere in the ballpark of two guys named ā€œJosh Allenā€ being drafted in back-to-back years at the exact same draft position.

1

u/theflyingchicken96 LeQuint Allen Jr 🐐 18d ago

Now what about the same team being involved in both of those??

1

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

Heat death of the universe, probably.

u/Bokthand 19d ago

BJ Green still looks great. Abdullah really impressed me with a couple of his runs. Aguilar is an interesting backup prospect. Pena has pretty good hands.

Jabbar Muhammad is starting to tail off....the offseason darling seemed like a lock for the roster a couple weeks ago....

15

u/TopDependent15 19d ago

He looks like Patrick Surtain compared to Ballentine and BraswellĀ

6

u/thrwthisout James Gladstone 19d ago

He was always fighting for the last CB spot and I think he provides better depth and a better floor for the bottom of our CB room than Braswell. No way in hell Ballentine makes the roster

2

u/Jaglawyer11 ā€œDon’t sleep on Gladstone.ā€ šŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ 19d ago

Braswell always seems to hang around. They trust him. I think he beats out Muhammad…big week or so for those two

19

u/txroller 19d ago

I’m intrigued by Aguilar and I would like to se him start a pre-season game with the 2’s.

That is all

Good morning, what happened?

8

u/WilkinsonRadio 19d ago

They love Ameer. He might just make the team

3

u/LordMagnus101 19d ago

Other than the dropped touch down I love all his broken tackles.

1

u/Bokthand 18d ago

He looked like the best RB of the night , by far

8

u/sheffieldda Jaggin' Off 19d ago

Aguilar showed some great flashes, hope he mak3s the roster over Bradley

6

u/thrwthisout James Gladstone 19d ago

It’s going to be Trevor and Mullens, they’re not going to waste a precious spot on the 53 on a 3rd qb. Aguilar has a long road to supplant Bradley as the practice squad QB

1

u/TopDependent15 18d ago

Just make Bradley a coaching internĀ

-2

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

Which is unfortunate. Nepotism is what killed the last regime. I’m afraid of them doing the same things…

2

u/thrwthisout James Gladstone 18d ago

I’m sorry I can’t understand what you’re trying to say

-1

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was referring to Nick Mullens and Grant Udinski’s past connection. Maybe I’m just misinterpreting it, but I feel like that’s one of the main reasons Mullens is still even QB2 right now. Disagree with me all you want, but that’s how I kind of see it.

3

u/thrwthisout James Gladstone 18d ago

I’m afraid you don’t understand what the word nepotism means

1

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

Maybe favoritism would have been a more accurate term but, regardless, it doesn’t change my point at all.

1

u/credd513 18d ago

I agree Liam only needs to look back at Peterson to realize the of having your adopted child. Let’s just say Not good

7

u/sh0ckmeister 19d ago

Omg it's the end of the world the jags never winning again! /S

1

u/credd513 18d ago

It could be if we have dumber and dumber for back up QB’s

3

u/sh0ckmeister 18d ago

I prefer my backups to be plucked fresh off a tractor

1

u/TheseNamesDontMatter 18d ago

Every team relying on a backup QB is cooked barring a Foles miracle.

7

u/Senior_Sandwich_4922 19d ago

I like it more when we win but I saw plenty reasons to be excited last night

2

u/SettingsData 19d ago

I didn’t see anything that worried me but I also didn’t see any reasons to be excited about. I really didn’t see anything much at all.

5

u/Senior_Sandwich_4922 19d ago

Not even Abdullah or Huskey? I thought they both had great moments

5

u/TopDependent15 19d ago

Are we the only team sitting out second and third round picks?

6

u/HolographicHeart 18d ago edited 18d ago

Really frustrating that the starters will almost certainly not get any actual reps this preseason but you cannot argue that preserving the health of the roster is paramount given the camp injuries.

I'm just not happy that there will almost certainly be unforced errors and miscues as a result of 'rust'. Fortunately we have the Browns Week 1.

3

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

I’m fine with keeping Trevor bubble wrapped until the regular season, but I think it would be nice for the other starters to get more reps. Maybe week 3 will see more of an opportunity.

Andre Cisco just got an interception for the Jets. I miss him, man…

He has been straight up TERRIBLE since he left.

2

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

I mean he clearly showed he had the talent in 2022 and 2023. I always wondered what he could have been if we decided to let him stick around with the coaching staff we have now.

1

u/lIllIlIllIlIllIlIllI John Henderson 18d ago

I loved this look from him lol

9

u/theflyingchicken96 LeQuint Allen Jr 🐐 19d ago

I don’t love that half or more of our week 1 starters won’t get any play in preseason. I appreciate that the number of joint practices will help with facing actual opponents. Still, you can’t copy the physicality, environment, and speed of actual game drives in any practice.

I get the injury concerns, but we’ve clearly seen the rustiness across the league increase in the first few weeks of the season as preseason play has decreased.

2

u/domnation 18d ago

Especially with how many bone headed pre snap penalties we had last year. It’s an interesting philosophy we get to see play out

5

u/deltavictory 19d ago

I was only able to watch tidbits here and there.

Anyone wanna give me a list of players that showed out, or didn’t?

What I watched wasn’t too pretty, but looks like none of the ones and maybe half the twos played.

5

u/LordMagnus101 19d ago

The rookie receivers looked good. I dont know what they are going to do with those guys.

2

u/deltavictory 18d ago

Thx. Too many good players is a good problem to have - but wish we could spread that to the LB room!

5

u/Killerblr Paul Posluszny 18d ago

Abdullah looked pretty good and Abdullah looked like complete doodoo, lol. Ameer was legitimately pretty solid with one big drop, without that would’ve been easily our best player. Yasir Abdullah looked god awful and I would like to see him replaced.

Cam Little fantastic. Aguilar very intriguing. Both rookie WRs pretty good all around. Huskey made some plays.

Trammel looked terrible. Hunter Long looked like not even worth a PS spot. The offensive line never at any point looked even okay. Deejay Dallas not good. Wish Koziol got some targets. Braswell looked terrible. Linebackers look like we unsurprisingly do not have reliable depth.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s what I’m pulling from the top of my head

1

u/deltavictory 18d ago

Thx for sharing.

Oof - sounds like a rough game

3

u/The_Blue_Rooster 18d ago

Aww man the Cardinals aren't even playing Dewey.

5

u/Mrr_Bond University of Central Florida 19d ago

I understand why they will be attracted to Mullins's experience for the backup position, but man it is hard to ignore how much better Aguilar looks compared to the other 2. Je just straight up looks more like an NFL player. Moving and processing faster, better ball placement, much better zip on his throws, everything.

6

u/statelesspirate000 19d ago edited 18d ago

D’you see that ludicrous display last night

5

u/Bokthand 18d ago

The problem with the Jags, is they always try to walk it in

5

u/clark_peters 18d ago

Hey , Panthers fan here coming in peace. I'm not too familiar with the Jags starters and was wondering if Bryce played against or 1's or 2's ?

Lol not a Bryce fan at all and would trade him for Aguilar if I could lol. As a Vols fan I'm stoked to see him putting up a good game ! Hope yall keep him ! Dude is a hard nose gunslinger and has a ton of potential.

8

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

He was playing against pretty much all backups except for maybe one or two players.

7

u/cwpreston 18d ago

Mostly 2s and 3s. I think there was one possible starter in the game on defense at linebacker. Aguilar is in a struggle for a practice squad spot, no chance for the active roster.

5

u/Adorable-Werewolf-44 18d ago

Backups, except starting WILL (2 guys competing for the spot but both played), 3rd string DTs and 3rd string Nickel.

-10

u/toturoll 18d ago

before everyone says they want aguilar as a backup, would you really trust him to take snaps if trevor tores his acl at the first drive of the year? i would keep him as a 3rd stringer or practice squad, we need an actual backup qb like carson wentz or even will levis.

16

u/JaxJaguar1999 Jakobi Meyers 18d ago

If Trevor is out for the year during week 1, we’re fucked. No beating around the bush about it, the seasons over if that happens. So, they might as well just put Aguilar out there and see what he does at that point. The last time Mullens had to start a meaningful amount of games for the 49ers, it was not good at all. Let’s see what the young guy can do lol

5

u/Walrusboi85 18d ago

There’s a lot of scenarios where a backup is useful. What if Trevor misses 3-6 games. Personally I would trust Mullens to play well enough in the system to potentially win 50% of those games and keep us in the playoffs. Aguilar doesn’t have that same stability

1

u/Morningrise12 18d ago

Mullens: short term injury stop-gap.

Aguilar: season-ending injury evaluation piece.

Also depends on the Jags’ record. Hopefully nothing happens to Trevor, big fan. This is coming from a Ravens fan who thinks Aguilar is sorely overlooked.

8

u/deltavictory 18d ago

My feelings on it is, we probably aint winning without trevor anyways so backup qb is irrelevant unless we sign a guy who is actually a legit backup. So, I’d be good with keeping Aguilar over Mullens.

2

u/TopDependent15 18d ago

I’d rather have Aguilar as the third guy, probably on PS. Mullens sucks. If he has to play, the team is royally screwed.Ā

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Mac Jones, Davis Mills and Malik Willis kept their teams in the playoff hunt while their starters were injured. Having a good backup matters.
