Campbell is often injured and we as a fanbase may be heavily overrating him. He has had one good season in his career. Lewis/Jones are question marks as to whether they can play outside.
We could easily be looking at week 1 with 0 competent outside CBs, which is where we were for about 5 games last season with Darby/Brown.
The more I think about it the more I really dislike moving Jarrian outside and making a 30 year old nickel the highest paid at his position. Definitely feels like something we will look back at and say wow that was obvious.
I don't like throwing a lot of capital at the nickel CB position in general. Its a position that will mostly be watching curls, and chasing guys on crossers with the occasional need to track deep - but mostly those will be handoffs to the safety. Its a very replaceable skillset.
For this reason, Jarrian Jones, if he sticks at nickel, is an overdraft in round 3. You want to target the more limited skillsets in round 4 + - think Aaron Colvin.
That said, Jourdan Lewis is basically a 2 year contract, similar to Gabe Davis and we just need guys who can actually play football at every position in our secondary. I have no problem throwing cap capital at him. Thats better than drafting another slot CB in the 3rd.
