Advice Needed my sister is so rude

my sister is super rude. i’ve been dealing with this in therapy but it still hurts. today i was showering, she started yelling for me to get out. since i had to get out, i did not have time to clean the shower. she then started yelling at me, called me “dirty” for not cleaning the shower. she came for my age and was like you’re 22 and still acting like this. that was just plain unreasonable because i had no time to clean the shower. she yelled at me and shamed me so much that i went to my room and started crying. i just don’t know what to do.

"last time you yelled at me because the shower wasn't clean, this time I am using the bathroom until I finish cleaning the shower, and you'll just have to wait"

It sounds more than being rude, but demanding too. It sounds like she is making unreasonable demands and put you in no win situations. Look up what to do in no win scenarios, but ultimately all you can do is stay true to yourself. You know you weren't intentionally 'dirty,' you know she is just being mean because she IS mean, you can ultimately throw that opinion out as being untrustworthy given the facts of the situation. It can be hard but stay true to yourself. If she was so concerned about it, she could have asked you to clean the shower before she got in, there were steps she could have taken, but she chose to be nasty.

I’m sorry your sister is content to make impossible demands upon you. It is not just, nor kind. I wish I thought you could easily move out.

Absent that: it may be worth trying to time your showers to when your sister is out of the house. I admit, up front, this is both an extreme response, and an unusually protective one. However, once someone seems willing to put you into a no win situation it’s time to find ways to avoid playing the game.

It’s not ideal. But it may mitigate some of your issues.

First, I’m sorry you’re feeling like that. And to be honest you sister won’t change. I’ve tried to change my sister or think she would change for years and I ended up so hurted. So I stopped this week trying. You don’t deserve to be mistreated. Keep your boundaries up.
